BBC Hindi is running a very interesting news item on its website today. India’s pride and the greatest icon of Indian sports Sachin Tendulkar has been named as the fifth most admired person of the world. The survey in this regard was stated to have been carried out by Yougov.

In the survey which was carried out for “The Times”, approximately 14,000 people from thirteen countries took part. YouGov found out that Microsoft founder and philanthropist Bill Gates is admired by more than any other living person—narrowly beating US President Barack Obama for the top spot.
It is very heartening to see that Sachin has been placed above Amitabh Bachchan and Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. It is his humble nature that has made him so popular. He has been so down to earth despite being such a big star. He has been associated with various charities as well. We are proud of Sachin Tendulkar! Hats off!
Besides Tendulkar, there are a lot of other prominent sportspersons on the list. Imran Khan, Pakistan’s World Cup winning captain-turned-politician is 12th and closely following him is Argentine and Barcelona footballer Lionel Messi, who is at 15th place on the list. Messi’s great rival Cristiano Ronaldo is at the 22nd place, one place below basketball legend Michael Jordan.
