Bangalore, Aug 28 (IANS) A total of 450 amateur players will be taking part in the fifth Toyota Karnataka Golf Festival Powered by Mantri to be held at the Karnataka Golf Association course here Sep 12-15.
It will be the largest amateur golf festival in South India will see top-notch golfing action in the country as participants will be vying for a spot in the Indian team at the World Golfers’ Championships to be held at Durban, South Africa, from Oct 26 to Nov 2.
Presented by the State Department of Tourism, the Golf Festival has been a successful showcase of Karnataka as a premier golfing destination for the last four years, the organizers announced here Wednesday at a Media conference.
Commenting on the association with the festival, Arvind Jadhav, Additional Chief Secretary, Tourism Department of Karnataka, said: “We hope that our state will continue to be recognized and rewarded as the one-stop golfing destination in India.
“We are, therefore, keen to continue our association with this Festival along with Toyota Kirloskar Motor, so that the experience of playing at KGA, nominated as one of the top 10 courses in the Asia Pacific Region, continues.”
Speaking about the success of the past four editions, former Asian Games gold medallist, Rishi Narain, Managing Director of Rishi Narain Golf Management said: “We are delighted to have so many people enjoying this unique golfing event and are humbled at the continuous support this event has gained through the last five years. We conceptualised this festival to showcase Bangalore as the golfing destination that it is and are elated to say that this platform has done just that.”
The Festival is the official India Qualifier for the World Golfers Championship in which five winners from five different handicap categories (0-5, 6-10, 11-15, 16-20 and 21-24) will represent India at the World Golfers Championship.
Arjuna Awardee and ace professional golfer Harmeet Kahlon from Chandigarh will be making a special appearance on behalf of Toyota Kirloskar Motor Sep 14 when he will interact, compete and guide over 120 Golfers on any one hole of KGA.
In addition to top amateur golfers, the Festival will also see celebrities like Syed Kirmani, GR Vishwanath and Erapalli Prasanna display their golfing skills at the KGA.
