Anirban Lahiri wins Asian Tour Golfer of the Month award

The affable 28-year-old’s star is on the rise

Ace Indian golfer Anirban Lahiri is edifying India’s name in the world of international sport. The Bengaluru-based golfer won the inaugural Hilton Asian Tour Golfer of the Month award. The award is part of the Hilton Worldwide’s effort to acknowledge and reward the exceptional achievements of Asian tour members in Asia and abroad. The initiative is a collaboration between the Hilton Worldwide and the Asian Tour, reports Times of India.

Lahiri’s superlative form from June to September was enough to clinch the award, beating out the Thai duo of Kiradech Aphibarnrat and Prayad Marksaeng. The trio were nominated by a panel of selectors before being voted for. Lahiri is ranked 39th in the world and has been in blinding form for the past nine months, winning two events sanctioned by the Asian and European Tours respectively.

At Whistling Straits in August of this year, Lahiri finished tied for a fifth place finish and set a record for the highest finish by an Indian professional golfer in a major. Lahiri’s performances earned him a place on the 2015 President’s Cup squad, making him the first Indian player to achieve this distinction.

Elated at receiving the award, Lahiri said, “I'm delighted to earn the fans' votes for the inaugural Hilton Asian Tour Golfer of the Month award. It is a wonderful recognition and a fantastic initiative for us to engage more with our fans.”
