The winning moment: Inbee Park was too good for everyone at Rio

28 year old Inbee Park of South Korea sealed golf with a consistent showing at the Olympics over the course of the four days at the Olympic Golf Course in Barra Da Tijuca, Rio. Ranked 5th in the world, she recorded rounds of 66, 70, 66 and 66 to end the event at 16 under par, 6 shots ahead of second placed Lydia Ko.

There was never any doubt in her performance as she lead at the end of all the days and remained resolute throughout. Things were much more tighter for the silver and bronze medals. Shanshan Feng of China entered the fray on the final day with her round of 2 under par to end the event at 10 under par overall.

Going into the last hole, World No. 1 Lydia Ko needed a birdie to win the silver and that’s exactly what she did, pushing Shanshan Feng down to third place, sealing bronze.

For India’s Aditi Ashok, the Olympics proved to be an absolute rollercoaster ride. She enjoyed a great first half of the event, where she was 6 under par at the end of two days. For parts of the second day, she was tied for the lead, sending Indian golf fans into delirium. However, the last two days proved to be a detterent in her quest for a medal as she shot rounds of 79 and 76 to end at +7 over par.

It will be a learning experience for the 18 year old who will be expected to shine on the professional circuit hereafter. She currently plays on the Ladies European Tour and has left a mark in the international scene after her performance at the Olympics.
