Tiger Woods to make appearance in India

Golf fans in India may just finally get the opportunity to see one of the best golfers ever, Tiger Woods, in action in the country. There hasn’t been much noise over it, but there have been reports that Woods will be teeing off at the Delhi Golf Club (DGC) for a private event this coming Tuesday. It is said to involve a quite hefty appearance fee at that.

The 14-time Major winner, it is understood, will be playing a round of golf against Pawan Munjal and some other corporate guests.

Without going into the details, IVS Juneja, president of the DGC, confirmed the news: “So far, it is on the cards. What we have been granted is conditional acceptance. But it’ll only be confirmed in the next couple of days.”

The appearance is going to be only a cameo with Woods not expected to be be there for more than just a few hours and there are large scale preparations being made to welcome the golfer.

Some estimates put the figure being paid to Woods for this appearance at $2.2 million (roughly Rs. 14 crore).

For all the hype being made around it, it is going to be a behind-closed-doors affair with no access to the media or to the fans, since no tickets are being sold.

It will mark the appearance of one of the top golfers, but with no real attraction in it really for the average golf lover. Only members of the DGC will have access to the club.
