Australia beat India 3-2 in the shootout in the final Test

It was a case of so near, yet so far for India as Australia pulled off a stunning win in the third and final Test at Raipur, after the match went into a penalty shootout due to both teams scoring the same number of goals during the course of the Test series after India had won the contest 3-2 in regulation time.

India started off strongly on the third and final test, as Raghunathan put India in the lead at the 17th minute. Trent Mitton then equalised for Australia in the third quarter. With the score at 1-1, India fought back well and were awarded a PC, which Rupinder Pal Singh scoring his 50th Goal for India. Mitton then, struck again in the final quarter, to send the scoreline at 2-2. With just 10 seconds left in the last quarter, India brilliantly took the lead, as Akashdeep Singh scored a brace, to push the match into Penalty shootout.

The shootout was as thrilling as the match itself. But Australia held their nerve, to win the shootout 3-2, to clinch the tie. The heroes of the shootout were the goalkeepers from both the teams. Despite losing in gut-wrenching fashion courtesy a penalty shootout, the hosts have plenty of positives to take from the match and will be looking for a much decent performance in the upcoming Hockey World League.
