Coach Glegg Clark resigns from the national junior hockey team

Gregg Clark steps down as coach of junior national team

Gregg Clark will no longer continue as the coach of Indian junior hockey team, and will leave for his home instead.

The South African who was signed on a year’s spell in April 2013 has decided against renewing his contract and will step down from his position.

On Monday, HI secretary general Narinder Batra said, “Clark has decided to give up the role due to personal reasons. He could not stay away from his family for long, so he opted to go back home.”

Batra indicated that HI are looking to appoint a new head coach “within 10-12 days”, before the national junior camp begins. When asked if they were considering the option of a foreign coach again, he replied, “We will see. We’re looking at all options. The process has already started.”

The junior team had a disappointing World Cup campaign under Clark, but in September they claimed the Sultan of Johor Cup in Malaysia. They kept their winning momentum after that but they failed to maintain that streak in crucial moments.
