Famous Bengalureans join hands to unveil the Bengaluru Cup 2015 trophy

With just a few hours left for the second edition of Bengaluru Cup to commence, Hockey Karnataka inaugurated the tournament and unveiled the trophy at a splendid ceremony at Indiranagar Club. The ten day tournament from 10th to 19th October will bring together an impressive line-up of hockey players in both men and women’s categories across 11 teams who will battle it out for the one-of-its kind trophy and title.

Along with Sandeep Somesh, Jt. Secretary at Hockey Karnataka, the trophy was unveiled by Additional Commissioner of Bangalore Police, BNS Reddy and former ace cricketer Venkatesh Prasad. Coaches of the participating men and women’s teams were also present at the ceremony to represent the extraordinary talent of their teams. The men’s team from Karnataka XI was represented by coach K K Poonaccha, and the women’s team from Karnataka XI by Suresh Adina.

Speaking at the unveiling, Sandeep Somesh, Jt. Secretary at Hockey Karnataka said, “After the success of the first edition of Bengaluru Cup, we are looking forward to making the second edition as successful. Bengaluru Cup is a platform for the country’s hockey talent to demonstrate their abilities & strengths and prepare themselves for the opportunities that lie ahead of them. We hope the sports enthusiasts of Karnataka will come forward and support the teams and the tournament wholeheartedly.”

BNS Reddy, Additional Commissioner of Bangalore Police said “Bengaluru Cup is a great endeavour that will encourage sportsmanship at the grass-root level. I am sure the young players will soon make their international debut as well and create many more Rio moments in the future.”

The Bengaluru Cup will be held at The Hockey Stadium at Shanthinagar and tickets for the final match on 19th October are exclusively available on Bookmyshow.

Hockey Karnataka (HK) came into being in 2010 as the governing body for Hockey in Karnataka. Comprising of a lot of former women & men players who have represented Karnataka & India at the highest level, HK set about with a single agenda to promote the game in Karnataka. The commitment showed immediate results with Karnataka Men being podium winners for the last 3 years and the Karnataka Women’s team were quarter finalists in 2013.

After the success of the inaugural edition in 2014, Hockey Karnataka is buoyed to make this tournament an annual affair. Bringing together over 12 teams of myriad backgrounds through the shared love of hockey. Bangalore Cup seeks to promote and celebrate the rich cultures and diversity represented in India in the effort to let the passion of the game unite us all. This tournament is via invitation only and the organizing committee will hand pick the top 6 teams in both Men and Women’s hockey. These teams will be represented by Players who don the Indian colours and players who are preparing in right earnest to seal their spot on the National team to Rio 2016.
