While representing the national team in its 4th league match of the Hockey World League semis, Gurbaj Singh reached another milestone in his career as he earned his 200th cap for the national side. He has been an integral part of the team throughout his career and is known for blunting down the opposition attacks.

Gurbaj made his senior team debut at 2006 Doha Asian Games and has been a pivotal part of the team ever since. His calmness in pressure-cooker situations is one of his strengths. The Punjab-based player can adapt to different positions in the team, but prefers to be a midfielder.

The 26-year old played a key role in India’s major achievements in last decade. In 2007, his efforts were the main reason of India winning the Asia Cup and recently his great composure at the back was at display in India’s Asian Games victory in 2014.

Now with almost a decade into the team, Gurbaj, who represented India in the 2012 Olympics, is one of the most experienced players in the squad and will play an important part in nurturing the young players.

Md. Mushtaque Ahmad, Honorable Secretary General Hockey India, congratulated Gurbaj Singh on this milestone. He hailed his development from a young squad player to a vital senior team member and wished him all the best for all his future part of his life.

Mr. Ahmad said, “Hockey India is extremely delighted for Gurbaj Singh’s achievement of 200 international matches. He has been an integral part of the Indian team and always gives his best performance in matches of all levels. We wish him all the best for the upcoming tournaments and hope to see him bringing more achievements for Team India.”
