Sardara Singh took the term social networking a little too seriously as he found his lady love on facebook. Meet Ashpal Kaur, a die-hard fan of the Indian skipper who first sent him a message on facebook.

"I was reading the messages when I noticed a post saying 'Sardar Singh you are a great player, I love you' by someone called Ashpal Kaur," Sardar recalled.

Sardara did not reply back instantly as fan mails like these are a common thing for celebrities. What made Ashpal stand out was her persistence as she kept sending messages, which is when he asked about her whereabouts.

Ashpal responded that she was from London and a former under-19 England hockey player and a Sikh. Sardar decided to meet her during the 2012 London Olympics, but unfortunately could not do so. They remained in touch via text messages, emails and phone calls.

Sardara took the initiative as he went to London to met Ashpal and her family. Her father is a hockey coach. He informed his family after returning from London. They approved the relationship as both were Sikhs and Namdharis as well.

They are engaged and Ashpal is currently in Sirsa, Haryana, Sardara's home town. The couple visited the Golden temple on Monday. Both families are keen for wedding bells to ring as soon as possible, but the duo want to tie the knot after the 2016 Rio Olympics.
