The Junior Men’s Hockey team left the country late last night to represent India at the 8th Junior Asia Cup in Kuantan, Malaysia. The tournament, which begins on the 14th of November 2015, will be played at the Wisma Belia Hockey Stadium in Kuantan, Malaysia. An elite Junior Asian tournament, the 8th Junior Asia Cup will see the top eight Asian hockey powerhouses playing for supremacy.

“We love the support we get in Malaysia and we are familiar with the climate and other conditions in the country. This is an advantage for us as the boys will need no extra time to acclimatise and we can get going with our work from the first day itself.”

“The boys have been together for over two months now and that just adds to the comfort and performance standards. They operate as a team and will be collectively working towards favourable results. The energy in the camp is very positive and we are confident about putting a great show in Malaysia,” said Harendra Singh, Coach, Indian Junior Men’s Hockey Team.

Harjeet Singh, Captain, Indian Junior Men’s Hockey Team said, “The team is positive about a good run at Kuantan. We have been together for over 60 days now and we have worked hard on strengthening our defence, and have tried to work on our attacks and counter attacks. We have high expectations from ourselves and are confident of giving our best in Malaysia.”

India is placed in Pool A with Malaysia, Japan and China, and open their campaign against Japan on the 14th of November 2015. India’s past encounters against Japan have been in favour of the blues. With the team also fresh off their strong performance in the 5th Sultan of Johor Cup in Malaysia last month where they won the silver medal, they will go into the tournament high on morale and with strong momentum.
