Indian Oil could not defend their title this time against Punjab National Bank

The All-India Beighton Cup ended on 11th October, with Punjab National Bank winning the tournament by defeating Indian Oil Corporation in the last match. The final, which took place in the Sports Authority of India ground in Kolkata, was at a 1-1 stalemate at full time. Punjab National Bank won 5-3 via penalties, according to jagranjosh.com

A penalty corner conversion by Satpal Gulia in the 30th minute put Punjab National Bank on the scoreboard. Deepak Thakur of Indian Oil Corporation scored a field goal to equalize in the third minute after half-time. At the final whistle, the scores were locked 1-1, forcing a penalty shootout. Naveen Antil of Punjab National Bank sealed the victory for his side with the fifth, decisive goal.

Punjab National Bank goalkeeper Jasbir Singh was awarded with the Best Player award, while the Army XI won the Fairplay Award. The Beighton Cup is one of the oldest hockey tournaments in India, with its origins dating back to 1895. It was organised by the Bengal Hockey Association and was initally held in the Mohan Bagan Ground in the Maidan in Kolkata.

The tournament has had huge names from the sphere of hockey associated with it, including Indian legend Dhyan Chand, Leslie Claudius, Vece Paes and Gurbux Singh. All of them won Olympic medals for India in hockey.
