After three electrifying seasons of some enthralling, edge of the seat Kabaddi action, the Pro Kabaddi league is all set to return for its fourth run across the country. Scheduled to begin on the 25th June 2016. It will be the first time that the championship is held more than once in a single calendar year.
Having undergone some thorough realignments due to the prevalent restrictions that did not allow any franchise to retain more than two players, all eight teams will be raring to prove their mettle one more time in 2016 when they take to the arena to chase Kabaddi glory. With some fresh dynamics in place in every team, the tournament promises to be a nail-biter like each of its predecessors, and could turn out to be an even bigger success this time around.
Auctions were held on 13th May to form the reshuffled units that will lock horns for the first time this June. Every franchise bid according to their preferences, occasionally challenged by their unflinching counterparts to pick their choicest targets which at times escalated to several fierce bidding wars before the odd raider/defender could have his fate decided.
Overall, the format of the tournament remains similar to that of its earlier editions. Each team will play 14 matches in the group stages at the end of which the top four teams will surge ahead to the semi-finals on the basis of their points scored till then.
The top-ranked team from the league stage will take on the fourth-placed entity in the first semi-final, whereas the 2nd and 3rd placeholders from the league stages will face off in the second semifinal match. Both games are to be played at Hyderabad’s Gachibowli Indoor Stadium on Friday, 29th July 2016.
Eventually, following the 3rd/4th place playoff match between the losing sides from the semi-finals, the ultimate winner will be decided via the Grand Finale clash on the 31st of July at the Hyderabad venue.
