City Karateka selected for Asian games

Mysore: The city karate champion who brought laurels to Karnataka by winning gold medal after eight years is now in a financial crisis.

The 14 year old who bagged a gold medal in 47kg category was selected to represent the country. But her father C Sriranga is now worried as he is not in a state to bare the expenses.She started training at an young age under the guidance of her father. Ashwini has bagged several medals at the district, state and national levels.

Her father works in a welding shop. He said that the government did not help him during the Delhi Championships and it cost him Rs. 45000.

“When we heard the news that she was selected to represent India at the international level, we are happy, but worried as we are not in a condition to bare expenses. I hope government will come forward to help us,” he said.

Ashwini is hopeful

Speaking to City Today Ashwini said, “I am thrilled to compete in international level and I am undergoing vigorous training. I just want to win gold in the Asian championship. The journey will be tougher as Karatekas from 15-20 countries will be participating in it.”

She recently bagged a gold medal in KAI sub Junior/Cadet/ Junior and under 21 years national Karate championship-2014 organised by Karate Association of India.

She also bagged official recognition of Dan grade where her records are included in Karate Association of India. She is the student of Okinowa Shorin Riu Karate school.
