Chael Sonnen fired by UFC and FOX Sports

Chael Sonnen was fired by UFC and FOX Sports yesterday

Chael Sonnen might just be one of the greatest names in the history of Mixed Martial Arts, but that didn’t stop the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and FOX Sports from terminating the former fighter’s contract as an analyst after news broke out that Chael had failed his second random drug test, after initially failing his first test last month, forcing him to retire from active competition. Although Sonnen announced his retirement on live TV, UFC and FOX Sports had signed him as an analyst, but his second and most recent failure now marks the end of the relationship between Chael and UFC.

UFC had announced the following yesterday:

The UFC and FOX Sports organizations announced today the termination of their respective broadcasting services agreements with analyst Chael Sonnen. This decision comes in light of Sonnen failing a second test conducted by the Nevada Athletic Commission for banned substances in June. Sonnen was previously under temporary suspension by the Nevada Athletic Commission for failing an initial test conducted in May.

Chael isn’t new to controversy, and was pulled from the UFC 175 card after the Nevada State Athletic Commission found out that he had failed a random drug test, putting his career on hold. Chael then came out and gave his reasons for testing positive for two banned substances, and proceeded to retire from MMA. But it now looks like this was the last straw for UFC, as they let him go after he first fought in the organization back in 2005, and his last fight in the UFC was back in 2013 against Rashad Evans, a fight which Sonnen lost.

This marks the end of the career of one of the most controversial fighters in the history of MMA, as Chael Sonnen now has to look at other options. Although, we certainly hope that we haven’t seen the last of ‘The American Gangster’.
