Jimmy Smith is an American mixed martial arts fighter. He was the co-host of the television show Fight Quest, with Doug Anderson, on the Discovery Channel until it was taken off the air in 2008. He was primarily trained in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu

Smith grew up outside of Fresno, California. His grandfather was a boxer in the United States Army. Smith began his fighting career during high school on the wrestling team. He studied history at UCLA and he participated in a Brazilian Jiu-jitsu club there. After graduating in 2000 he became a seventh-grade mathematics teacher.

Smith has earned a Brazilian Jiu-jitsu purple belt and holds various Brazilian Jiu-jitsu titles, including the Joe Moreira Tournament Lightweight Champion, Copa Pacifica Welterweight Champion, the Cleber Luciano Tournament Welterweight Champion and the Paragon Tournament Champion. Smith also placed third in the Southern California Submission Pro-Am and the 2003 Gracie Open. He fought in his first pro fight with Team Punishment of Huntington Beach, California, in 2001.

On December 17, 2007, Smith appeared on the Carson Daly show with Fight Quest co-host Doug Anderson. The show followed Jimmy Smith and Doug Anderson as they travel around the world learning different styles of martial arts, spending five days training with notable masters of the styles they are studying, before exhibiting what they have learned in a final demonstration and/or fight. The show lasted only one season before it was taken off the air

Smith is also currently working as a color commentator for the M-1 Challenge fight series which matches teams of fighters from various countries against one another over a television season. He served as color commentator for the Affliction: Day of Reckoning show January 24, 2009. Smith would set down roots in Bellator for the organization’s second season in 2010 and have since called nearly 100 Bellator broadcasts on MTV2 and Spike TV. After 109 Bellator events, fans around the world have become accustomed to hearing on air analyst MMA veteran break down the intricacies of every fight inside the Bellator cage. That analysis will continue as Smith and Bellator have agreed to a new five year contract extension that will keep the former fighter turned broadcaster on air for Bellator through 2018. Many MMA enthusiasts are hoping to maybe see Jimmy Smith fight his counterpart, the UFC color commentator- Joe Rogan. Battle of the MCs anyone?
