UFC Fight Night 66 - Edgar vs. Faber : Review and Results

The UFC Fight Night: Edgar vs. Faber main card took place on Saturday in Manila and it was an entertaining fight card filled with impressive finishes, fun fights & featured a highly anticipated super fight between former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and former WEC champion Urijah Faber, as the main event. At the end of the night Edgar emerged as the winner & made a good claim for the next title shot against the winner of Aldo vs Mcgregor.

Neil Magny & Jon Tuck baged Performance of the Night bonus while Fight of the Night bonus went to thrilling fight between Jon Delos Reyes vs. Roldan Sangcha-an.

Magny pounds on Gyu Lim

Neil Magny def Hyun Gyu Lim via TKO (strikes) (1:24, R2)

Neil Magny had to weather an early storm from Hyun Gyu Lim in the opening minutes of the first round but overcame the flurry and rallied back to dominate the latter part of the opening round before closing out the affair less than two minutes into the second round.

Lim looked exhausted after nearly finishing Magny in the first round and Magny managed to take advantage of that en route to one of the best wins of his professional career. With this come from behind victory Neil Magny extended his win streak to seven straight fights

Munoz earned a victory in his farewell fight

Mark Munoz def. Luke Barnatt via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27)

In his self called last fight, Mark Munoz provided fans with one of MMA's finest moments of 2015. It's very rare MMA fighters get to retire on a win, never mind a dominant performance in front of a massive crowd of hometown fans. Munoz's retirement bout vs. Luke Barnatt ended with a comprehensive decision victory, an emotional, heartfelt speech to his supporters in Manila, followed by leaving his gloves in the cage in a touching symbolic moment.

Munoz who was a big underdog coming into this fight look determined to perform & not disappoint his home crowed. He just got after Barnatt from the start rocking him several times. Constantly taking him down & even tried to get a finish with submission attempts & GNP despite finish never materialised it was still a dominant win for Filipino wrecking machine.

Mousasi outclassed Costas Philippou

Gegoard Mousasi def. Costas Philippou via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

In the co-main event Mousasi just outwrestled Philippou to get a unanimous decision. It was a thorough beat down of Philippou who didn’t looked to be in the fight even for a minute as Mousasi effortlessly took him down, hold him there battered him with shots & kept threatening with submission attempts.

Edgar edged out faber in a win by unanimous decision

Frankie Edgar def. Urijah Faber via unanimous decision (50-45, 50-45, 50-45)

It was a dominant showing from Edgar, who did what he always does best and used his volume-heavy striking, pressure, footwork, and superior wrestling to secure a clear unanimous decision win.

The first two rounds were narrow, however Edgar asserted himself in the third, scoring takedowns and easily avoided all of Faber's attempts to work submissions on the ground. By the fifth, Faber knew he needed a finish, but Edgar looked like he was just warming up as he neutralised all of the Faber's attempts.

This was Faber's first ever loss in a non-title bout while Edgar hasn't lost a non-title affair since his first encounter with Gray Maynard in 2008
