UFC News: Cain Velasquez is set to avenge his title loss when he faces Fabricio Werdum at UFC 207

Mexico vs Brazil!

A huge bout has been confirmed for the number 1 contender spot between Fabricio Werdum and Cain Velasquez. The two former heavyweight champions will collide at UFC 207 in the T-Mobile arena, in Las Vegas.

The match is set to take place on a day prior to New Year’s Eve. The Mexican bulldozer is ranked #2 whereas the Brazilian jiu-jitsu champion is ranked #3. The heat between the two already exists as the two had previously collided in the Octagon before.

Werdum defeated Velasquez via submission to win the UFC Heavyweight title at UFC 188 last year.

The two veterans were scheduled to face each other at UFC 196 but Werdum pulled out citing injury. As a result of his withdrawal, the entire event was demoted to a ‘UFC Fight Night’ event on FS1. Later, Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz headlined UFC 196.

After Werdum’s dominance over Velasquez he then fought a losing battle against Stipe Miocic. The fight ended in round one as Werdum rushed in too soon, only to get knocked out by the Cleveland native.

Werdum’s last fight was with Travis Browne, who he dominated until the last round but was completely ‘booed’ by the spectators for the tedious performance. Cain Velasquez is coming off a victory over Browne as well after a spectacular performance at UFC 200.

The winner of their next match could be the possible #1 contender for Stipe Miocic’s UFC Heavyweight Title.
