Foreign drivers arrive in Uganda ahead of Pearl of Africa Rally

Kampala (Uganda), Aug 14 (IANS) Top African drivers from Ivory Coast, Zambia, Rwanda and Kenya have arrived in Uganda ahead of the 2014 Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Rally. The event to be held on August 15-16 is the sixth round on the African Rally Championship (ARC) calendar, reports Xinhua.

The foreign crew is led by the current ARC leader Gary Chaynes (EvoX) from Ivory Coast and former Africa champion Mohamed Essa (Subaru N16) from Zambia, winner of the 14th edition in 2012.

Others are Giancarlo Davite (EvoX) from Rwanda, Rajbir Singh Rai (Subaru N16), Manvir Baryan (Subaru N16), Jaspreet Chatte ( EvoX), Dennis Mwenda (Sprinter) and Chandrakant Chhabadhia (Subaru) all from Kenya. The event will have 41 drivers including eight foreigners.

The challenge by the Ugandan drivers will come from two-time national rally champion and winner of the event last year Jas Mangat.
