NFL: Interview with former UGA Tight End Arthur Lynch

Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties with our recording device, we do not have the audio of the interview. As such, a proper transcript is also not available. We have, however, done our best to provide his answers below. We ‘selected’ TE Arthur Lynch to the Jets, in this year’s OJT Mock Draft—which includes some info on the former Georgia Bulldog.

So today was your Pro Day, how do you think you performed—get any feedback from NFL personnel?

Arthur said that he thought the Pro Day went well and that he believes he was able to show scouts how he plays, via a scripted session.

In college, you were best known for your skills as a blocker, taking on some of the best college athletes in the SEC. What do you need to work on to maintain that level of play against the bigger, stronger, faster guys of the NFL?

Arthur said that the SEC level of talent was a good way to prepare for the NFL. He will continue to perfect his fundamentals, which will be key in maintaining his level of play—in the NFL.

Bulldog fans did see you steadily improve as a pass-catcher during your tenure with Georgia. How were you able to take that next step?

Once again, Arthur reiterated that his fundamentals were the key to improving as a pass-catcher, especially in his last couple of seasons with the Bulldogs.

In the Gator Bowl vs Nebraska, you had an opportunity to catch a pass on 4th-and-3, that would’ve extended the game. What happened there, how do you move on from it, and what do you takeaway from that moment?

Arthur said that he was having one of his best days with UGA, in the bowl game, and unfortunately he dropped the pass because he took his eyes off the ball, focusing on the endzone before making the catch. He said that he had two similar catches against Kentucky, so he thought he’d have it. He explained that it’s a tough thing to deal with, but you have to move on from it.

Note: Arthur Lynch caught six passes for 69 yards against Nebraska, his most receptions in a single game, in his career at the University of Georgia.

Now, shifting gears, we know you grew up less than an hour away from Foxboro, Massachusetts, and rooted for the rival Patriots. Jets fans want to know: if drafted by the team, are you ready to go out on Sundays in Green and White and take care of business?

Arthur stated that his dream is to play in the NFL; it’s not about where he plays. He works hard and hopes to land with a NFL team that sees that.

Finally Jets or not, why should a NFL team use a draft pick on you?

Arthur said that the unique thing about him is that he does everything fairly well. There’s some great tight end prospects in the draft, with great attributes, but considers himself very well-rounded. He believes that he does “enough things at a high enough level,” to put him a step-ahead in the class.

Thanks again to Arthur for taking the time out to speak with us, and make sure to shoot him a follow on Twitter: @alynch1788
