PORTO VECCHIO, France  - Tour de France champion Cadel Evans won the Criterium International second stage time trial here on Saturday.

The Australian star, riding for the BMC team, took control of the overall standings after the 6.5km run in this southern Corsican town ahead of the third and final stage on Sunday.

Evans came in .3s clear of his compatriot Michael Rogers, with Germany’s Simon Geschke 1sec back in third.

This was Evans’ first win of the season.

France’s Florian Vachon of the Bretagne-Schuller team won the first stage held earlier Saturday, a 89.5km ride around Porto-Vecchio.

Vachon beat home compatriot Laurent Mangel in a sprint for the line.
