Lewis Hamilton drives round the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona on Saturday. The Briton powered his McLaren to the fastest time in qualifying to secure pole position for the Spanish Grand Prix, the fifth race of the 20-leg Formula One world championship.

Britain’s Lewis Hamilton powered his McLaren to the fastest time in qualifying on Saturday to secure pole position for the Spanish Grand Prix, the fifth race of the 20-leg Formula One world championship.

Hamilton will start Sunday’s race at the Montmelo circuit just ahead of Venezuelan surprise package Pastor Maldonado (Williams), with Spaniard Fernando Alonso (Ferrari) and Lotus duo Romain Grosjean and Kimi Raikkonen in third, fourth and fifth.
