Aaron Hughes: A Brief Biography

Aaron William Hughes is a footballer who plays as a defender for Fulham from Northern Ireland (Cookstown). A versatile player, he can also play in centre back, right back or left back, as well as anywhere in midfield and is usually deployed in a centre half position for his club. He holds a record of making over 400 Premier League appearances without getting sent off, which is the third most in the history of the league. He made his first team début in the Camp Nou in a match between Newcastle and Barcelona on 26 November 1997. In 2005, he joined fellow Premier League side Aston Villa for a fee of £1m. On 27 June 2007, he signed on with Fulham and scored his first goal for the team later in December. On the international level, he first captained his country on 17th April, 2002. Hughes scored his first and only international goal, thirteen and a half years and 77 caps after his début, against the Faroe Islands on 10 August 2011. Though he was slated to retire, Hughes announced his return to international football on 19th February 2012.
