Eugeneson Lyngdoh: A Brief Biography

Eugeneson Lyngdoh is an Indian football player who represents India at international level while he plays as a central midfielder for Indian Super League club ATK.

Born on 10 September 1986 in Shillong, India, Eugeneson is a fine midfielder and a potent free-kick taker.

Background

Eugeneson wasn't serious about a career in football even though he played for Ar-Hima club. He thought of becoming a professional footballer when he failed to clear his third year engineering exams.

He played for Ar-Hima (now Rangdajied United) and was later signed by Shillong Lajong where he started his professional football career in 2011.

Debut

Eugeneson made his International debut for India on 12 March 2015 against Nepal in the first leg of 2018 FIFA World Cup Pre-Qualifier. He contributed with an assist in a 2-0 win. He has represented India in 17 games and was in the starting eleven in all of those 17 matches.

Club Career

Lyngdoh had good times with Shillong Lajong as he finished as the top scorer for his club during the 2011-12 I-League with four goals to his name. He made 23 appearances for Lajong during the 2012-13 I-League season but failed to score a goal.

Eugeneson then re-signed for Rangdajied United in the 2013-14 I-League season where he made 19 appearances and found the back of the net two times.

In July 2014 Eugeneson signed a one-year deal with Bengaluru FC. He scored his maiden goal for Bengaluru FC during the 2014 Durand Cup, in a match against Mohammedan.

Eugeneson created history by scoring Bengaluru FC’s first ever goal in the Asian continental club competition in a AFC Champions League qualifier against Johor Darul Ta’zim of Malaysia in a 2-1 loss. He scored the goal directly from the corner. He made 43 appearances for the club and scored ten goals, most of which came in critical situations.

Eugeneson was signed by Indian Super League club Pune City on 10 July 2015 for Rs. 1.05 crore for the 2015 ISL season. He scored his first goal of the Indian Super League against FC Goa in the fifth game of the season. He scored three goals in his 13 appearances for Pune City FC.

Eugeneson was picked up by Atletico de Kolkata for the 2017-18 Indian Super League season. He has made three appearances for ATK and is yet to score a goal for them.

Honours

Eugeneson was named Bengaluru FC Fans’ Player of the Year for the 2014-15 season. He was also named Bengaluru FC Players’ Player of the Year for the same season.

On 28 September 2015, he was named the “Football Player Association of India’s Player Of The Year”. On 20 December 2015, Eugeneson was voted as the best among Indians in the I-League and won the “2015 AIFF Player of the Year”.
