Jarkko Nieminen: A Brief Biography

Jarkko Kalervo Nieminen is a Finnish professional tennis player who has won two ATP singles titles and two doubles titles in his career. Some of his best performances in Grand Slam tournaments have been reaching the quarterfinals of the 2005 US Open, the 2006 Wimbledon Championships, and the 2008 Australian Open. He embarked on the tennis journey as a junior and won his first junior Grand Slam, the U.S. Open in 1999. He made his Davis Cup debut against Italy, the same year. Jarkko Won his first Davis Cup match in 2000 and the following year, became the first Finn to reach an ATP final since Leo Palin in 1981. He hit a 38-12 Challenger record, winning four titles. He won his first ATP singles title in 2006 by defeating Mario Ančić in the final. The same year, he was also able to reach his sixth career ATP final in Stockholm. In 2007, Jarkko won his first ATP doubles title. Two years later, he defeated Stéphane Robert in the ATP Challenger tournament final in U K. He won his second doubles title with Swede Johan Brunstrom on clay courts in 2010. Recently, Jarkko won the Sydney International for his second career title against Julien Benneteau.
