Narayan Das: A Brief Biography

Narayan Das Biography

Narayan Das, the Indian left back, was born on 25th September 1993 in West Bengal. Currently representing FC Goa in the Indian Super League, Das was a vital part of the Indian national cup that won the South Asian Football Federation Cup in 2015.

Early days

Das is a product of Tata Football Academy, which he joined in 2008 at the age of 15 and trained with them for 4 years before making his debut in the I-League, which is India’s top division football league.

Before being a part of the senior team, Das was called for the U19 team to play in the 2012 AFC U19 Championship qualifiers. He was called again for the U23 format of the same championship in 2012.

Debut

Narayan Das made his debut in professional football after signing with Pailan Arrows (club in I-League) in 2012 at the age of 19. Playing in the 2012-2013 season, Das made 22 appearances for the team before it dismantled in 2013. Consequently, Das was transferred to Dempo for the next two seasons. However he spent most of this time playing for FC Goa in ISL where he was transferred on loan.

His international debut for the Indian team came in 2013 against Nepal. Das was included in starting eleven as India won 2-0.

Rise to glory

Narayan Das shot into limelight after the advent of the Indian Super League. Playing for FC Goa in the 2014, Das managed to impress the selectors and was retained for the 2015 season, in spite of missing most of the season due to injury.

However, 2015 saw him being released of the contract with Dempo that allowed him to transfer to other clubs in the I-league. As a result, Das signed a contract with East Bengal FC for the 2015-2016 season. Coming back from injury, Das spent most of this time on the bench, making only 3 appearances for the team.

In 2016, Das was sent to Pune City in ISL on loan. Due to his adaptability and acute presence of mind, Das established his prowess in the ISL to become one of the top names in the League.

2016 also saw him scoring his first and only international goal for India in a friendly against Puerto Rico, thus helping his team record a 4-1 victory.

FC Goa bought Narayan Das for 90,000 Pounds in 2017. Das finished an impressive season with the team having a pass accuracy of 75.6% while completing 37.92 passes per game.
