Vitaly Petrov: A Brief Biography

Vitaly Aleksandrovich Petrov is a Russian Formula One racing driver who is currently driving for the Caterham F1 Team in 2012. Reffered to as \"Vyborg Rocket\", Petrov is the only Russian to have competed in the Formula One World Championship. Petrov began his karting career, unconventionally, taking part in rally sprints and ice races. It was not until 2001, when he competed Russian Lada Cup, that he entered the mainstream racing. He remained in the series dominating the championship, to amass a total of 500 points. Petrov began racing in the Formula Renault championships in 2003. During the year he competed in several rounds of the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 and finished fourth in the British Formula Renault Winter Series at the end of the year, taking one win. In 2006, Petrov focused on competing in European racing series such as Euroseries 3000, Le Mans Series, 2008 GP2 Asia Series season et al. In 2010, Petrov finally transitioned to a Renault driver, thus becoming the first Russian driver in the Formula One World Championship. He finished his first race at the Chinese Grand Prix, coming in the seventh position. After the 2010 season ended, Petrov was retained by the team on a two-year deal. On 17 February 2012, Petrov joined the Caterham F1 team.
