Asics launched the next generation of the Cumulus series. Asics GEL-Cumulus 17. This generation of the running shoe is primarily for mild over pronators and under pronators. The GEL-Cumulus 17 has to fill big shoes as it succeeds an award winning shoe lineup. Continue reading to find out what the Cumulus 17 has to offer.

Specifications:

Heel height: 23mm

Toe height: 13mm

Heel-to-toe drop: 10mm

The shoe is true to its size and the fit is extremely comfortable. A size 9 men’s shoe weighs 323g. The shoe is available in three exciting colorways along with a standard full black colorway. This neutral road running shoe offers best in class cushioning and stability.

We see an open mesh and a highly breathable upper. The ventilation of this shoe is supreme. Thanks to the seamless construction, we will experience almost zero irritation. Asics introduced independently placed eyelets to ensure that you experience optimum lace tension. You will always experience enhanced comfort.

Asics stitched parts of the upper with spEVA 45 to provide additional cushioning. Asics also included the ComforDry sock liner with Cumulus 17. With its antibacterial properties, the odor and moisture levels are at a bare minimum. The sock liner provides additional cushioning too!

Just like Asics GEL-Quantum 360, we see Guidance Trusstic System. This technology offers great support along with unmatched torsional rigidity. To improve the gait efficiency, we also see a Guidance Line that runs from the heel to forefoot area. We can also see an Impact Guidance System (I.G.S) that creates a much better and much balanced heel-to-toe transition and is similar to what we see in Asics GT-2000 3 Lite-Show.

Midsole also offers a gender specific Solyte cushioning system that offers cushioning with additional comfort. For unparalleled cushioning, Asics included Gel cushioning system in both rearfoot and forefoot areas. It feels like you are walking on clouds. On the downside, the shoes turn out to be a little bit hefty due to the cushioning system. This silicone-based cushioning system offers responsive sock absorption. For lightweight durability, we see FluidRide technology as well (323g is still heavy!).

We can see AHAR (Asics High Abrasion Rubber) carbon rubber outsole in the heel area of the running shoe. AHAR provides exceptional durability. Along with this, we see DuraSponge outsole in the forefoot area. This material is made from blown AHAR compound, which provides much required flexibility. Traction levels are great.

The latest iteration in the Cumulus lineup has plenty to offer and is the shoe you can go for if you are an under pronator or a mild over pronator. All the normal foot strikers, go for this shoe too. The ride is very comfortable and from the stability point of view, the shoe is top-class. Durability should not be a problem as Asics GEL-Cumulus may well last over 500km. However, this shoe is heavy when compared with other neutral running shoes available in the running shoe business.

Asics GEL-Cumulus retails at $120 i.e., around 8,000INR. Availability in India is TBA.

Bottom-line: One of the best neutral running shoes from Asics.
