Mumbai to celebrate Independence Day with 12-hour Ultra-Marathon

Mumbai Ultra 12-Hour Run

This independence day, Mumbai gets ready to host the second edition of Mumbai Ultra 12-Hour Run. Organized by Shivaji Park Marathon Club, the objective of this event is to encourage people take up running to live healthy.

The venue for the race is MGM Swimming pool, Shivaji Park, Mumbai. The race will start at 5 am on 15th August. To be deemed a finisher, a runner must cross the start line at 5 am, cross the finish line at 5 pm and cover a distance of at least 43 kilometres during this time duration.

During the 12-hour period, a runner can take breaks as per his/her requirement and will have to go through medical check-ups at the medical station after completing a maximum of two loops.

The Race Director will be Col. Gulshan Chaddha, Principal of Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (an autonomous body specialised in offering training for mountaineering), has more than 20 years of experience in Indian Army. He is an excellent motivator, renowned trainer, mountaineer and a trekker.

There will be adequate ‘Aid Stations’ along the route providing water, energy drinks, first-aid facilities. All necessary medical facilities will also be available. The ‘Holding Area’ will have a ‘Doctor’s Station’ for periodic check-ups and monitoring of key health parameters such as weight, blood pressure of runners and baggage counter.

The weather is expected to be warm and high humid, showers likely with strong head-winds on the sea face. The overwhelming response received for registration proves the growing popularity of this challenging running event among the running enthusiasts of the city.
