TCS World 10K Bangalore 2014: The cool quotient of running!

Running has got to be the coolest thing to have hit the block in recent years. Why do I say that? Well, the list of reasons is practically endless, but I’ll start with the basics – with life getting busier and a general lack of time, running is the easiest and most convenient way to get some exercise in.

We all know that in today’s day and age, Fit is Fine, Strong is sexy and Bold is beautiful. So automatically, anything that makes it easier to get Fit, is what everyone wants to do. In fact, I don’t even remember the last time I went anywhere without my running shoes. My car has one pair, my gym bag definitely always has a pair and wherever I travel, there is always a special corner in my travel bag for that pair. Let’s not even talk about my shoe rack and the number of running shoes on there.

And you can see this trend developing all around – most role models and established names seem to have taken up running as a hobby. Whether it is Al Gore, Katie Holmes, Ryan Reynolds, George Bush, Oprah Winfrey or closer to home Milind Soman, Rahul Bose, Gul Panag, Neha Dhupia or Anil Ambani – and hey, if running is good enough for these fabulous people, it sure as heck is good for me too!

And then of course, there is this lifestyle that comes with it – the pre-race drama and shenanigans – which they call carb-loading. But to be honest, it’s just an excuse to eat great food like pasta and noodles and feel extremely important about how careful you are with your preparations. That’s not to mention marking your moment of glory with a celebratory pop of champagne followed by some recovery drinks. Did I mention that beer is the best recovery drink discovered by mankind so far?

Also, don’t forget the “oomph” aspect – the styles change as per the season, so you get to revamp your entire wardrobe at least four times a year – and trust me when I say this, you get spoilt for choice in the outfits and the accessories that you can adorn yourself with. It really does give fashion an extended arm.

Just a question – have you ever heard of or seen a FAT runner? Didn’t think so. So not only do you get to eat all those awesome things, have guilt free treats, drink “recovery” drinks while sporting up-to-date and trendy fashion, but you also look good and earn the rights to brag about your healthy lifestyle.

Talking about bragging – you even get to constantly blog about your experiences and travel to different places under the pretext of an event. You get to experience and live life, meet new people and get introduced to new cultures while having mini-vacations.

So you get to look good, feel good, travel, live and inspire people all at the same time, while staying healthy and fit and breaking personal boundaries and evolving into a stronger and better human being. If that doesn’t define cool, I don’t know what does.

And what’s the best way to motivate yourself to run? Sign up for the next race. The TCS World 10K Bangalore 2014 is around the corner and registrations are open from 14th April until 26th April 2014. Sign up for the open 10K in the TCS World 10K Bangalore 2014 at http://tcsworld10k.procamrunning.in/.

If all the above reasons were not enough, here is another to make this happen. In order to promote younger runners to adopt running as part of their lifestyle, Nike has been really generous. The top finishers in the 15-24 age bracket will get a fully sponsored trip to a race overseas. OMG!!! And just to add a little more excitement, there are going to be some great attractions in the build up to this race. Watch this space for information about these attractions.

So don’t waste any more time. Register now, and you will be provided with all the information and resources to prepare for this event! Being cool was never this simple.
