London, April 13 (IANS): World record holder Wilson Kipsang won his second London Marathon with a course record here Sunday.

The Kenyan, winner of the 2012 race, clocked 2:04:29 for the title followed by compatriot Stanley Biwott in 2:04:55 while Ethiopia’s Tsegaye kebede finished third in 2:06:30, reports Xinhua.

Kipsang, who set the world record of 2:03:23 in last year’s Berlin Marathon, beat the previous course mark of 2:04.40 set by fellow Kenyan Emmanuel Mutai in 2011.

Mo Farah, who won the men’s 5,000 and 10,000 metres race at the 2012 London Olympics, finished eighth at his debut here. The 31-year-old failed to break Steve Jones’s 29-year-old British record of 2:07.13 and finished at 2:08:21.

Edna Kiplagat beat fellow Kenyan Florence Kiplagat to win the women’s race with Olympic 10,000m champion Tirunesh Dibaba finishing third on her debut.
