How Sushma Swaraj swiftly came to stranded Olympian Abhinav Bindra's aid

Abhinav’s Coach lost his passport in Germany

India’s Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj’s Twitter handle received an uncanny request for help from 2008 Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra with regard to his Coach’s lost passport.

The 33-year old was left stranded in Germany, after his Coach’s passport got stolen. The Minister swiftly responded to Abhinav’s plea, by resolving the issue in a matter of minutes.

He said, “Ma'am my coaches passport is stolen in Cologne and need assistance. We are on our way to Rio for the pre Olympics. We are stuck. Need your help in order to secure a new travel document and Brazil visa to be able to compete successfully.”

Swaraj responded, “Please give me your phone number, Abhinav Bindra.”

The Indian Ambassador in Germany was notified about the issue, he tweeted, “Mr Bindra. Please tell me the problem. We will help you. Ambassador Gurjit Singh.”

Within an hour, the matter was resolved and Abhinav was quick to thank the Ministry. Swaraj in turn requested Abhinav to win gold for India in Rio, to which he responded, “He said, with your good wishes ma'am. Will do my best and will not leave any stone unturned in this endeavour.”
