Genpact, a global leader in digitally-powered business process management and services, announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Olympic Gold Quest (OGQ) on Thursday. OGQ is a non-profit organization founded by Geet Sethi and Prakash Padukone with the aim of helping Indian athletes to gun for gold at the Olympics and four out of the six athletes who won medals at the London Games four years ago were in fact, supported by the OGQ.
This partnership is a part of Genpact’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) endeavours and will form a crucial part of the company’s cause of supporting women in leadership across a spectrum of arenas beyond the corporate sector.
Sasha Sanyal, SVP – Strategy, Diversity & Inclusion Leader at the company, drew a parallel between the challenges faced by women in the field of sport and in the world of business and highlighted the importance of equal female representation across various fields. “Gender diversity and supporting women to fulfill their potential are something that we drive with everything here at Genpact. We’re delighted to support women in sports and are excited to be a part of their Olympic journey,” she said.
The OGQ is led by former skipper of the Indian national hockey team Viren Rasquinha, who was part of the side that participated in the 2004 Athens Olympics. He said, “We are grateful to Genpact for their support and we hope to forge a fruitful partnership that will go beyond Rio to the future Games as well.
“As a country, we are at a stage where we need to create more sporting heroes, especially in the form of women athletes, and such efforts will go a long way in creating more Saina Nehwals and Mary Koms for people to look up to.”
Also present at the conference was ace shooter Heena Sidhu, who won the gold medal at the 2013 ISSF World Cup Finals in the 10m Air Pistol event. She is also a world record holder in the same category and is on track in her preparations for the Games that begin in August this year. “It is truly inspiring to see Genpact helping women athletes out in such a manner and such support will be crucial to all of us on the road to Rio.
“I will give my 100% to win the medal for the nation and become an inspiration for the next generation of sportspersons in India,” said Sidhu.
