India shines on fourth day at the ISSF Junior Cup

Shivam Shukla, won his and India’s third Gold Medal in the ongoing 2nd ISSF Junior Cup in Suhl, Germany, when he triumphed in the Junior men’s 25m Pistol event on Day four of competition. He also added another Silver Medal to his kitty in the team section of the same event, combining with Arjun Das and Simarjit Singh to shoot a combined score of 1676, finishing behind the French team as a result, which shot 1695. Shivam’s tally from the tournament now stands at three Golds and two Silver medals.

Akhil Sheoran won India’s fifth Silver Medal in the ongoing 2nd ISSF Junior Cup, when he narrowly lost out on the Gold in a shoot-off to Switzerland’s Christoph Duerr, in the Junior Men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions event. Italy’s Marco Suppini won the Bronze Medal, finishing with a score of 439.5. Both Christoph and Akhil had earlier finished with a score of 454.3, before the Swiss shooter scored 10.4 in the shoot-off to Akhil’s 10.0.

The premiere shooting tournament for juniors is being played at the Shooting Centre in Suhl, Germany and had already seen India win nine medals in the first three days of competition.

Day four of the competition also saw the Indian Junior Women’s team in the 25m Pistol bag a Bronze Medal – the Indian squad’s 11th of the competition overall. The troika of Gauri Sheoran, Shreya Gawande and Chinki Yadav shot a combined score of 1719 to finish behind the Gold Medal winning Russian team and the Silver Medal winning team from Korea. Both Russia and Korea finished with identical scores of 1726 in the final, but Russia had more inner 10s than the Korean team.

India’s tally at the competition now stands at three Golds, six Silver and four Bronze medals for a total of 13 medals thus far in the competition.
