Indian speed skaters win 7 gold medals at Hong Kong International tournament

The Indian national speed skating team bagged 14 medals at the Hong Kong International speed skating Championship. The field included international skaters from China, South Korea, Bangladesh and the host nation.

India won seven gold, five silvers and two bronze medals at the event held in the Checkers Sports club in Hong Kong.

In the U-10 girls category, Khushi Shah (11) won the gold medal in three different races, the 250m, 500m and 1000m. What was even more surprising was that Khushi lapped all her opponents in the 1000m race.

The team was coached by Ajay Shivlani.

This is a massive boost for winter sports in the country, which has been languishing in the doldrums. After the success of the Indian Ice Hockey team, it’s the speed skaters who have made India proud.
