10 Professional wrestlers who have killed people

The Great Khali unleashing a monstrous chop on Del RioThe world of wrestling is always a deep lying mystery. Despite the risks involved in the profession, everyone is attracted to the luxury that a wrestling life brings. Often, the wrestlers get addicted to an arena full of fans chanting for them, and they lose track of the purpose of them being there. They fall into the clutches of drugs and alcohol, doing things they would otherwise never have done.Along with that, drunk with fame, many wrestlers have been also arrested for various charges. Though most of them were crimes that didn’t leave a certain impact on the life of others, some wrestlers actually went on to commit murder. And here is a list of 10 superstars who did the unthinkable.

#10 Akitoshi Saito

Mitsuharu Misawa was one of the biggest names in Japanese wrestling. He had some great matches throughout his career and was also the Wrestler of the Year on three occasions.

But due to years of physical matches Misawa was in a terrible condition when he came into a match with Saito. He was just a bump away from losing his life and that bump happened to be a backdrop from Saito.

Misawa immediately lost consciousness and was taken to the hospital where he died. Due to Misawa's popularity, Saito later received many death threats as he was the reason why many fans’ favourite wrestler had passed away.

#9 Brian Michael McGhee

McGhee might not be a familiar name to many, but everyone who has followed the WWE development closely would know about D.T. Porter. He signed with WWE in 2010 and spent two years there before his departure.

Though he didn’t make it big in the wrestling business, McGhee certainly made headlines when he stabbed his girlfriend to death. McGhee’s girlfriend, Bianca McCaughey was found dead in their apartment complex in Tampa and McGhee was soon taken into custody.

And taking into custody was more like a scene from a crime film as well, as the police had to chase McGhee who eventually crashed into a guard rail and got caught.

#8 Jimmy Snuka

Though there was no charges pressed against Jimmy “the superfly” Snuka, a default judgment in 1985 ruled that Snuka murdered his girlfriend Nancy Argentino.

According to Snuka, his girlfriend was gasping for air when he came to the hotel room after a wrestling match. But apparently Nancy passed away due to cranio cerebral injuries which didn’t go with what Snuka claimed.

Vince McMahon defended Snuka at that time because Snuka was a big draw for McMahon and his promotion. Snuka was eventually not pressed with any charges despite the default judgment, and he walked free.

#7 Jos Gonzlez

Jose Gonzalez is a very big name in Puerto Rico. He is equally known for being a wrestler and a promoter but will always be known as the man who stabbed Bruiser Brody to death.

In a bizarre story that happened during the territory days, Gonzalez got into an argument with Brody in the locker room and he stabbed Brody. Many big names including Carlos Colon, Zeb Colter and Tony Atlas were at the arena when the incident occurred.

Tony Atlas even gave a statement against Gonzalez but later remained silent as Gonzalez walked free. It is believed that Colon protected Gonzalez with his influence in the island as he was a big figure for Colon.

#6 Ox Baker

Like others in the list, Baker wasn’t someone who was accused of murder. He was just a wrestler who was unlucky with his opponents.

First in 1971, Baker was wrestling Alberto Torres and Torres passed away in the ring after taking Baker’s finishing move, the Heart Punch.

Torres was suffering from a heart condition and the punch took his life.

One year later, Baker was in another match. Ray Gunkel who wrestled Baker in that match passed away due to a heart attack in the ring, making it two.

Baker was never blamed for the incidents and it never hindered his rise in the business either.

#5 Verne Gagne

Gagne was one of the biggest names during the territory days. He was ranked alongside names like Bruno Sammartino, Lou Thesz and Killer Kowalski and also has his own promotion named the American Wrestling Association.

For those who don’t know, AWA was the place where Hulk Hogan started wrestling, but the promotion let go of Hogan because he didn’t have much technical skills like others.

In 2009, suffering from Alzheimer’s, Gagne killed his nursing home room mate by body slamming him onto the floor. And due to the nature of the disease that Gagne was going through, he couldn’t recollect any of the incidents and the victim’s family didn’t press charges either.

#4 The Great Khali

Khali botching inside the ring is something that the WWE fans often get to see whenever he gets some air time. But apparently Khali has a much worse record in APW.

He accidently killed a man during APW’s beginners' camp which cost him millions of dollars after the company sued him. Brian Ong, who had a previous concussion, was working a match with Khali and took two consecutive flapjacks which landed him in the hospital.

Later he was pronounced dead, but Khali wasn’t brought up on charges due to the nature of the wrestling business. However, APW sued him and got a fat check as a result.

#3 New Jack

Those who are familiar with the original ECW will be more than familiar with New Jack. He used to make shoots that made CM Punk look like a kid with the microphone. He was also known for putting his body through the limit just to make his opponent go through hell.

With such an intense background in wrestling, New Jack had a much worse record in real life. He has four homicides to his name and whe as also a bounty hunter before he joined the wrestling business.

Apart from the murders New Jack also made headlines for the Mass Transit incident where he bladed a 17-year-old so bad that there was a pool of blood in the ring.

#2 Chris Benoit

This is a story that has been told over and over again, simply because there wrestling has never seen anything as shocking as what Benoit did.

Suffering from various problems due to his drug usage and head trauma, Benoit was at the edge of losing his sanity most of the time and in June 2007, he finally lost his grip and fell. Benoit murdered his wife by asphyxiation and did the same to his son before committing suicide.

Though the whole thing was concluded on the evidence that was available, a majority of the fans still believe that Benoit didn't commit the massacre. The incident shook the whole wrestling world and literally changed the way everyone say wrestling.

#1 Scott Hall

Freshly inducted into the Hall of Fame, Scott Hall is one of the darkest figures that have ever graced the squared circle. From his childhood itself Hall suffered abuse and it haunted him throughout his career.

In 1983, outside a nightclub, he got into a fight with a stranger who drew a gun at Hall. Hall eventually got hold of the gun after wrestling with the man and shot him dead. He wasn’t charged with murder due to the lack of evidence but in a famous interview he gave to ESPN, he admitted killing the man.

Despite being a great in-ring performer, Hall’s career only left a black mark on the business due to his drug problems, and the murder incident from his past didn’t do him any good either.
