10 real life WWE couples outside the realm of Total Divas

Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella tied the knot after dating for a long time, and that was the biggest talking point of Total Divas. WWE also used the reality show to let the world know about John Cena and Nikki Bella, and Natalya and Tyson Kidd. But even before the Total Divas came to life, there were many controversial and even happy relationships formed between WWE Superstars outside the ring. Many of these relationships had more drama than what WWE has telecast on their marquee reality television show.So here is a look at some of those real life couples that made headlines in WWE way before there was a Total Divas show.

#11 Honorable mentions

CM Punk and Maria

CM Punk and AJ Lee

CM Punk and Lita

Steve Austin and Debra

Billy Kidman and Torrie Wilson

And every other CM Punk relationship

#10 Undertaker and Michele McCool

Taker is one wrestler who always keeps mum about his personal life. The WWE has also never shown interest in giving away any details about him other than the dead man characterestics, since those are legendary in their own right.

Taker married Michele McCool after breaking up with his former wife, Sara. The marriage happened in 2010 and was the biggest news then, since Undertaker was someone who always stuck to kayfabe.

Taker and Michele have had a happy relationship so far. Perhaps the best part is that they were romantically involved during their time at SmackDown, and no one knew about it until the news of their marriage broke out.

#9 CM Punk and Beth Phoenix

Punk has had some interesting relationships throughout his career, and the one with Beth Phoenix was the most talked-about, probably because it ended so abruptly.

Beth started dating the Straight edge superstar in 2011 and the couple were seen together at various occasions. WWE even used Beth to negotiate contract talks with Punk as they were willing to transfer her to Raw and give her a push to make him happy.

Punk confirmed to Maxim that they were indeed dating, but later called Beth a “douche bag” and a “flake” in another interview. Beth didn’t respond to the comments and retired from professional wrestling.

#8 Edge and Beth Phoenix

The relationship between Edge and Beth was revealed in 2012, the same year that Punk broke up with her for some unknown reason. Edge mentioned about their relationship during his Hall of Fame speech, and that soon made the headlines.

Edge was married twice before Beth appeared in his life, and he also had a high profile relationship with Lita. Beth, on the other hand, was involved with CM Punk and prior to that was married to a wrestler named Joey Carolan, who never made it big in the wrestling scene.

None of this held the couple back though, and today they are still happily together.

#7 Randy Savage and Elizabeth

The relationship between Savage and Elizabeth was arguably one of the most talked about relationships back in the 90s.

Savage and Elizabeth got married in 1984 and Elizabeth went on to be his manager for the majority of his career without revealing to anyone that they were married.

WWF eventually realised the bankability of the real life couple and made them marry again on-screen at SummerSlam 1991. The couple split up a year later in real life but in a remarkable show of professionalism, stuck together in the storyline.

Elizabeth then moved in with Lex Luger to embark on a new relationship which ended abruptly when she died due to a drug overdose, which many believed was a result of the domestic dispute between her and Luger.

#6 Brock Lesnar and Sable

Sable was arguably the hottest diva during the Attitude Era, and after some mesmerising performances throughout the period, she was released from the WWE in 2004.

At the same time, there was Brock Lesnar who was pushed to the sky by WWE. But Lesnar apparently had more dreams to conquer and got himself a release as well.

The two released wrestlers started to bond together that kick-started a relationship which culminated in them getting married in 2006. Brock and Sable have been having a happy family life so far with two children – Turk and Duke – along with Mya, who is the daughter of Brock’s ex-fiancé.

#5 John Morrison and Melina Perez

MNM was a hot tag team when it debuted in WWE. Consisting of Joey Mercury, John Morrison (Johnny Nitro) and Melina, they turned out to be one of the best teams that the division had at that time.

Amidst all that, Morrison and Melina were involved in a relationship which went through some rough patches.

They started dating in the early 2000s when they met at WWE’s Tough Enough auditions. But Melina reportedly had an affair with Batista while dating Morrison, which caused the duo to reach the brink of a break-up.

They survived that though, and went on to be together for some more time before breaking up for good.

#4 Goldust and Marlena

Dustin Runnels married Terri in 1993 when both of them were working for WCW, but Dustin soon found himself out of a job and moved to the WWE.

WWE was where Goldust character made its debut, and he soon brought in his wife to play his manager. Terri took up the role of a cigar-smoking girl and went on to have some great segments with the Bizarre one.

The relationship ended in 1996 when Terri apparently broke up with Goldust to be with Sean Stasiak. But Terri claimed that Goldust was spreading false rumours about her and even pointed out his substance abuse as the reason for their break-up.

The two, however, have bonded over the years and are on talking terms today so as to ensure that their daughter grows up in a happy environment.

#3 Edge and Lita

Lita made it in the WWE as part of the Hardy Boys and she was also in an off-screen relationship with Matt Hardy during that time.

The two eventually moved in together and were having a happy run until Hardy got injured. When he took time off to recover, Lita had an affair with Edge who was married at that time. That didn’t go down well with Hardy, and he publicly leaked the news which led to his departure.

Edge and Lita continued to have a relationship both on and off the screen and even had their famous sex celebration during that time. But the two didn’t last long either; Lita broke up with Edge and later dated CM Punk.

#2 Triple H and Stephanie McMahon

There is no couple other than Stephanie McMahon and Triple H, who were successful both on and off the screen.

It all started when Triple H kidnapped Stephanie when she was scheduled to marry Test. Triple H then forcibly married Stephanie (kayfabe) and that marked the start of the McMahon- Helmsley Era, in which the couple went on to feud with Vince McMahon for the control of WWE.

Hunter and Stephanie eventually fell in love in real life and married in 2003, going on to have three children.

Over a decade has passed since, and today if there is a poll on the hottest couple in WWE, there won’t be many people who could give these two competition.

#1 Triple H and Chyna

The reason why this relationship is ranked above the Triple H-Stephanie one is because if it would’ve continued, we would have a different looking WWE altogether.

Chyna made her WWE debut as a bodyguard and then went on to become a member of DX. Their repeated interactions on-screen in turn led to a real life relationship and even moved in together.

But things soon fell apart as Stephanie McMahon and Triple H began dating on and off screen. Stephanie and Hunter seemingly kept their affair a secret and Chyna revealed that she found out about the relationship when she saw love letters of Stephanie in Hunter’s briefcase. Hunter denied this later and said that he only started dating Stephanie after breaking up with Chyna.

Irrespective of what actually happened, the WWE decided to get Chyna off their roster and offered her a bad deal, which she rejected.

If Hunter hadn’t cheated on Chyna, she would’ve still been in the company and Stephanie would’ve married someone else, which would’ve completely altered the WWE universe.
