So here is a look at some of the old and new WWE Superstars along with the makeover they underwent.

#20 Batista

The admiration that WWE has for vampires is no secret. Superstars like Gangrel and Kevin Throne in the main roster was proof of this. However, Batista was lucky enough to have his vampire inspired gimmick stuck in the development.

Named Levathian, it was a forgettable run for the animal back in OVW. Fortunately for him, someone had the idea of making him the muscle of Triple H’s Evolution which took Batista all the way to heights that he conquered now.

#19 John Cena

John Cena made his WWE debut in a dream scenario, and put up a great performance against Kurt Angle. Cena was supposed to be nothing more than a midcard heel and was assigned with a character which just rapped out at his opponents with cheesy lines.

He was something that the parents wouldn’t want their children to become, but time changed that. Cena is currently one of the most inspiring WWE superstars at this moment is no longer the rapper than families once ignored.

#18 JBL

Back in the Attitude Era, Bradshaw was a cigar smoking, bar fighting muscle that was up for hire in the market. Alongside Faarooq, he made the Acolytes Protection Agency (APA) which pulled of funny segments here and there.

In the mid-2000s however, WWE was having a crisis in their main event scene and Bradshaw stepped in to solve the problem. He became the rich guy who represented the upper strata of America and went on to be the WWE champion as well.

#17 Sting

There was the colorfully painted surfer Sting and then there is the Sting that PG era fans know.

At both occasions there weren’t much difference in the wrestling style he had, but the ‘crow’ inspired Sting proved to be a career change.

He was the lead opponent that Hogan’s NWo had back in the days and the face paint was easier to depict for the fans. It is also this Sting that the current fans are looking forward to seeing in a WWE ring.

#16 Vince McMahon

Vince McMahon inherited his father’s wrestling promotion and went on to make a revolutionary product out of it. Back during his initial run, McMahon showed excellence in hiding his true identity to the fans.

Instead of letting everyone know him as the owner of the promotion, Vince was only known as a ring announcer. However, the truth had to come out and when it did, Mr. McMahon was born, a character that depicted all the money minded bosses out there.

#15 Triple H

Despite the criticisms that Triple H has had throughout his career, he could be seen as a superstars who always knew how to fit in. After a ridiculous start in WCW, he ended up in the WWE midcard where he established D generation X.

Hunter went on to have numerous WWE title reigns after the marriage with Stephanie McMahon and turned into the COO from a regular in ring performer.

He also proved to be the best in law that Vince could’ve got considering the other possibilities Stephanie had at that time.

#14 CM Punk

Living a straight edge life didn’t mean that CM Punk was restricted from having any tattoo over him. Neither did it mean he had to have a cleanly trimmed facial hair. This was the trademark of Punk in the Indies and for a major portion of his WWE run, he stuck with these ideals.

However, once Rey Mysterio shaved his head bald, Punk dropped his long hair gimmick and replaced it with something more presentable. His latest make over before leaving WWE sort of looked like Wolverine which resulted in many internet memes.

#13 Scott Steiner

Most of the modern fans might only know Scott Steiner as a freak of nature who had his biceps grown out of proportion. His run in TNA and last run in WWE was nothing less than forgettable but before all that, Steiner was part of a legendary tag team.

Alongside with his brother Rick, Steiner went on to nine Tag team championships in WCW and WWE. He has long hair and some interesting attire before he decided to join NWo and hit the gym more often to work on his hands.

#12 Christian

Christian is one of those integral puzzle pieces without which Attitude Era can’t be completed. He was part of the tag team which built a legacy. He was the kayfabe brother of Edge and one thing WWE did to make them look familiar was long blonde hair.

Captain Charisma then broke up his long term partner to embark on a singles run which crossed over to TNA as well. He is currently out of action due to a concussion and will not be returning with a long hair which he once owned.

#11 Big Show

Long hair to bald might be a trending pattern in this list and it applies for Big Show as well. He was billed as the ‘The Giant’ in WCW and had long black hair. Even when he initially moved to WWE, Show stuck with a hairy head which somewhat looked good back then.

However, once he decided to put the blade on the skin, it proved to be the end of a relationship that he had with his hair. Show still maintains his bald look now no matter what his alignment and push is in the WWE.

#10 Chris Jericho

Jericho started out his career in Japan before moving to ECW, WCW and finally WWE. He was known for being the vocal worker in the past too but his looks underwent radical changes.

His long blond hair which was kept in various styles were the trend back then and as years passed, Jericho trimmed it down a bit in order to adapt with the change in the tides.

He still reigns as one of the most glamorous WWE superstars and one thing he did best was move along with the fashion and trends.

#9 Raven

Raven is arguably one of the most cult figures that wrestling has seen. He was simply a wrestling genius who had all the ideas and unmatched in ring psychology. Most of the wrestling critics had high hopes for Raven but something somewhere went wrong.

Before he was the highly recognized as a cult character, Raven was had a Johnny Polo character which had kakhee pants, a golf club and a polo mallet. It was one of those ridiculous experiments from WWE which went nowhere.

#8 Randy Orton

Orton started off his WWE career just like any other second generation superstar would do. He was a bright young prospect that had a lot of backing from the start, simply speaking an arrogant youngster who thrived along with Evolution.

The journey started there and as time went, Orton was able to stand tall on his own. Instead of being the arrogant youngster, Orton is now the experienced veteran who is known for his predator instincts which earned him the name ‘viper’.

#7 Steve Austin

Austin was WWE’s flag bearer in during the Attitude Era and to reach there, he had to go through a lot of transformations.

Austin started out in the WCW as a Paul Heyman guy with some blonde hair over his head, but his midcard run didn’t last long.

Eric Bischoff fired Austin from ECW and he was hired immediately by Heyman for ECW. He developed his rebel character there before moving to WWE giving birth to the remarkable Steve Austin that we know today.

#6 The Rock

Dwayne Johnson debuted in WWE as Rocky Maivia which was similar to the Bo Dallas of today minus the cheesy inspirational speeches. He was supposed to be smiling youngster with a bright future but the fans refused to accept him that way.

However, one he got involved in the Nation of Domination, Rock started showing what he is capable of. He started giving some insulting promos that was too good for the fans to ignore. Rock soon morphed into the great one that we know today and the rest was history.

#5 Goldust

There is always a lot of pressure when you are a second generation superstar and this was the same thing that Dustin Rhodes had on his shoulder when he debuted as ‘The Natural’ in WCW. He struggled in the shadows of his father and soon left WCW for a run in the WWE.

He embraced some paint and transformed into the Bizarre one which soon had the curiosity of WWE fans. Goldust might’ve not had a main event run with the WWE title, but he was and is an integral part of the promotion’s midcard for every spell he had.

#4 Kane

When the fans thought that there couldn’t be anything creepier than undertaker, the company gave them Kane who had a more mysterious past than the Phenom. From that debut, Kane had a plethora of mask variations down the road.

He wrestled without mask for a long time and now has a suited Authority puppet. Kane might just be one of the most underrated veterans in the roster right now and a lot of it might be because of the lack of epic matches that he didn’t have through his career.

#3 Daniel Bryan

Daniel Bryan’s journey through the WWE ranks is nothing short of extraordinary. He started as part of the developmental circuit and worked all the way up to being the WWE champion by overcoming all the obstacles that were thrown at him.

And those obstacles included poor booking and a firing but which weren’t good enough to keep Bryan down.

With time, Bryan started to grow his trademark beard which then came out to be a cult phenomenon among the WWE fans that were not used to seeing shabby champions like Bryan.

#2 Undertaker

The Phenom might just be known for his streak but he was subjected to some weird experiments during his long run with the company.

He debuted as the mysterious character and had the biker gimmick in the early years of 2000s before settling for the dead man character which he still carries around.

Taker was one of those superstars who got better with age and he dropped the goofy tie and rubber gloves that he had, to look sharper with a legendary aura.

#1 Hulk Hogan

The reason why this makeover tops the list is because of the historical impact it had. Hogan was having the ‘John Cena’ type run in WWF when WCW decided to rope him in. Many expected Hogan to be the face of WCW just like he was with WWF, but Eric Bischoff surprised everyone.

Hogan turned heel and invented the Hollywood Hogan character with the NWo which won the ratings for WCW in the Monday Night wars.

It was one of the well-executed heel turns in the history of professional wrestling and something which changed business to the core.
