3 current WWE superstars who came very close to winning a World title but couldn't make it

The erstwhile Nexus leader

A 15 time World ChampionYou name a WWE superstar and I assure you that winning a World title will be his ultimate goal. The only thing that gives a superstar special recognition in the company is a World title victory. There are many guys in the business who have the potential to reach the top but failed to make it big. As part of this slideshow, let us have a look at 3 guys who came so close to a World title victory but somehow couldn't make it till today-

#3 Wade Barrett

The erstwhile Nexus leader

Wade Barrett is one of the most talked figures in the company in 2010. He was the leader of 'Nexus' and was always at loggerheads with both John Cena and Randy Orton. WWE tried to project Barrett as the face of the industry but somehow changed their plans. He got a couple of good chances(Bragging Rights 2010 and Survivor Series 2010) to win the World title from Orton but he couldn't capitalize on both occasions. In 2012, when Sheamus was the World Champion, WWE gave a few chances to Barrett against Sheamus in non-title matches. Barrett couldn't prove his mettle when it was most needed and that's the reason why he is still short of a World title victory.

#2 Roman Reigns

The Big Dog

During the first few months of 2015, many experts speculated that Roman Reigns was the future for the WWE. Everything went as per plan until Royal Rumble. Reigns managed to win the Rumble match and earned a chance to main event WrestleMania 31. But the way the WWE universe responded after Roman’s victory forced the company to change their plans. He was asked to face Bryan at Fast Lane and prove his mettle one last time and Romans successfully overcame this barrier. At WrestleMania 31, Reigns put on a great fight and almost had the title won, but Rollins ruined his dream and became the Champ. Nothing is working with Reigns now and the company should quickly plan something big for Reigns before his character becomes stale.

#1 Ryback

The Big Guy

The 'Big Guy' is the obvious pick for the top spot. In 2012, Ryback accrued a lot of fame and the WWE creative gave him a chance to fight CM Punk at 'Hell in a Cell' for the WWE Championship. Maddox shattered Ryback's dream and Ryback got another chance at Survivor Series. 'The Shield' was brought into the picture by WWE and Ryback became their constant prey. Ryback attacked them multiple times only to portray himself stronger and better. The closest chance that Ryback missed was on Raw. He climbed the ladder, had his hands on the Championship and once again it was the Shield that cost him the match. Let's see if Ryback joins the elites in the future.
