3 records that can be broken in the England v India Test series

India played England in a Test match for the very first timein 1932,andthe rivalry between the two nations has only been becoming strongersince then, with them having so farlocked horns in107 Tests.Along the way, a number of impressive feats have also been achieved by cricketers from these two nations. With the latest India vEngland Test series due to start this Wednesday, here are 3 records that are in danger of being broken.

#1 Most hundreds

The list of most hundreds in Test matches between India andEngland sees two stalwarts Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar at No. 1 and 2 respectively, with 7each to their name. Following them in the list aregreats Mohammad Azharuddin (6 hundreds), Kevin Pietersen (6 hundreds) and Ian Botham (5 hundreds).

While all of them have now retired either by choice or circumstance and pose no danger to Dravids record, the man at 6th place, with 5 hundreds from 15 Test matches, is England captain Alastair Cook.

Cooksbatting records in the last one year, however, doesnt mirror his record against India, with a paltry batting average of 25.04 and no hundreds from the 12 Tests during that period doing no justice to his ability.

The 29-year-old, though, should relish facing an inexperiencedIndian bowling attack in this series. After all, it was Cook who racked up 562 runs in 4 Tests at a stupendous average of 80.28 in 2012 to give England a historic 2-1 series win in India. If we see him in that kind of form once again, not just the Indian bowlers but Dravids record will also be in danger.

#2 Most dismissals by a wicket-keeper

Its no surprise when you come to know that Alan Knott, 54 dismissals from 16 Tests, has the most dismissals for a wicket-keeper in India vEngland Tests. Knott played 95 Tests for England during his 14-year international career and had 269 dismissals to his name, reflecting his superiority with the gloves.

He was extremely agile behind the wicket and rarely let go of any opportunity that came his way. It is said that Knott was at his spectacular best while keeping up to the stumps to the former England spinner Derek Underwood. Underwoodwould bowl at speeds closer to a medium-pacer than a conventional spinner, andyetKnott wouldve absolutely no problem in collecting the ball.

What might surprise a few is that Dhoni, with 50 dismissals from 16 Tests, is at No. 2 and should overtake Knott in the upcoming series, all being well. Dhoni has often been maligned for his wicket-keeping, but he must be a pretty decent gloveman if he is in a positionto surpass Knott.

#3 Most matches as captain

Dhoni, who has been the captain of the Test side for close to 6 years now, could overtake batting legendSunil Gavaskars record ofleading the most number ofIndia-England Tests. Gavaskar and Ajit Wadekar are currently ahead of the 33-year-oldhaving captained against England in 14 and 11 matches respectively. Dhoni is currently sitting on 10,but,with the upcoming Test series consisting of5 Test matches, he will take his number to 15 at the end of the Test series.

While that is well and good, I assume Dhoni will be far from pleasedwith his captaincy record against England.Out of the 10 Tests that Dhoni has captained India in against England, his teamhaswon only 2 matches while drawing 2 and losing 6.

Dhoni is a proud man,and that poor record wont sit well with him. The Ranchi-born will not only belooking to overtake Gavaskar but, more importantly, to do so by winning the series, as well.
