#5 Emile Veinante (1938)

Match: France vs Belgium, First Round

France got off to a brilliant start in the 1938 World Cup after striker Emile Veinante hammered in a shot against Belgium after just 35 seconds to give the host nation a lead in the match. France won the match 3-1 but crashed out in the quarter finals against eventual winners Italy ending their hopes of becoming the third host nation to lift the World Cup.

#4 Bryan Robson (1982)

Duration: 27 seconds

Match: England vs France, First Round

Captain Marvel showed everyone once again why he was one of the best defenders of his generation when he found the back of the net against France in just 27 seconds in the 1982 edition of the tournament. The Manchester United legend scored the goal from an incredible volley after receiving a pass from Terry Butcher. Robson scored another later on in the match followed by a goal from Paul Mariner which led to England crushing France 3-1.

#3 Ernst Lehner (1934)

Match: Germany vs Austria, Third Place Play Off

Another player who briefly held the record for the fastest ever World Cup goal was German winger Ernst Lehner. The German scored the goal against rivals Austria after just 25 seconds and later scored one more before half time. The Germans eventually won 3-1 which led them to finishing third in the 1934 World Cup.

Before Sukur created history in 2002 the record for the fastest goal was held by Czech striker Vaclav Masek, who was the proud holder of the record for 40 long years. None of the Mexicans could dispossess Masek, who dared toward the goal and slammed the ball into the bottom corner giving his country the upper hand in the match. Unfortunately the Czechs couldnt hold onto the lead and were eventually beaten 3-1 by the Mexicans.

#1 Hakan Sukur (2002)

Duration: 11 seconds

Match: South Korea vs Turkey, third place playoff

Iconic Turkish striker took just 11 seconds to score a goal against hosts South Korea in the third place playoff of the 2002 edition of the tournament. A defensive error from Hong Miyung-Bo at the start of the match gifted the ball to Sukur who calmly buried it into the South Korea goal creating the record in the process. The match ended 3-2 to Turkey crushing the hopes of a third place finish for South Korea who had been nothing short of brilliant in the tournament. The Turks record remains with himto this day and will most likely never be broken again.
