5 footballers who could not live up to their father's legacy

Enzo Fernandez, the son of Zinedine Zidane, quickly splashed into the news section after he was invited by the French football association to practice with the national under-19 squad. Any other ordinary kid wouldn’t have created such a surge on planet football, but Enzo is the child of one of the greatest midfielders of any generation. The type of expectation to prove his worth will be massive, given the fact, how good his father was. We take a look at a few heirs of exceptional football players who couldn’t make a grinding impact on football.Note: The rankings are not in any particular order.

#1 Edinho | Pele

The son of Brazilian legend Pele never made an actual mark while playing football. Unlike his father, he was a goal keeper who could only manage a senior playing career of 10 years because of his numerous legal troubles. As he hardly featured in any professional game in Brazil, it was his involvement in a murder case, for which people around the globe got to know about the son of Pele.

He was appointed goalkeeping coach at Santos in 2007.

His darkest moment came in June 2014 when he was sentenced to prison for 33 years for money laundering raised from drug trafficking.

#2 Bradley Wright-Phillips | Ian Wright

Ian Wright at one time was the highest goal scorer in the history of Arsenal football. With both his sons Bradley and Shaun playing top flight football in England, it was Shaun Wright - Phillips who was able to cut it at the top level.

Bradley started his career with Manchester City and after a disappointing spell, he moved to Southampton to play in the Championship. He now plays for the New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer.

#3 Paul Dalglish | Kenny Dalglish

King Kenny has been widely regarded as one of the best players to have ever played at Anfield. His heroics as a player were matched by his brilliant managerial career with Liverpool. A lot like others in the list, Paul Dalglish started well and was thought of as a great talent. But soon he lost his goal scoring knack and failed to score consistently, and did not make any real impact at any football level.

#4 Jordi Cruyff | Johan Cruyff

At Barcelona, Jordi Cruyff joined the most revered youth academy in the world. The name Cruyff behind his back was good enough to get him that kind of a start. His sudden rise to prominence after playing a couple of seasons with Barcelona in La Liga saw him captured by the giants of English football, Manchester United. At United he was plagued by injuries and was never able to perform his true potential.

After his contract expired he moved back to Spain and in the years that would define him as a footballer, faded away without making much of an impact.

#5 Mads Laudrup | Michael Laudrup

As a youngster, he broke into Danish football quite early. It was expected out of him to grow and mature into a fine footballer, just like his father Michael Laudrup. At the age of 25, Mads Laudrup finds himself playing in the second division of the Danish League.

If it’s time to excel as a professional footballer, it is perhaps now than later. What may happen in the future is a complete different story, but if you look at his growth as a football player, he is nowhere near the genius that Michael Laudrup was.
