5 possible opponents for Sting's farewell match in WWE

After an illustrious career in WCW and TNA, the 56-year old Sting finally showed signs of making an appearance in WWE for the first time when he appeared in the Network to speak about the Ultimate Warrior.WWE is also gearing up for producing a new Sting DVD which adds further hint to his deal with WWE but one thing that the fans will be dying to know now will be when and how he could get inside the ring. With his age, Sting might not be able to wrestler every week in and week out but what we could expect from him will be a farewell match.Though there are many deserving names in the roster who could face the Icon, WWE will have to put up the right guy to give a fitting farewell for Sting. So here is a look at the five names who could serve as best choices to face Sting.

#6 Honorable Mention-Shawn Michaels

If he decides to end his four year long hiatus and return back into the ring, we are sure to have a great match at our hands.

#5 Randy Orton

Remember the days when Orton used to be the legend killer and went after Undertaker’s streak? it was arguably one of the highest points of his career and he flourished as a young heel who wanted to end the career of a legend.

The fans are going to cheer for Sting when he comes to WWE which means that a top heel will be needed for his fare well match. And Orton is someone who could fill in that role.

He has all the skills to make this feud work against Sting just like the way he did with Undertaker and Mick Foley. Orton wanting to send out Sting on a losing note will be the emotion driving the feud forward.

Orton is a great in ring performer in the ring as well who could carry Sting and make it look like a credible match.

#4 CM Punk

It might sound a bit like a long shot, but brining back CM Punk with an offer to face Sting could work. Punk is not someone who eases away from challenges and he is likely to seize the opportunity to face Sting in his last match.

Assuming that Sting will only have his last match at next WrestleMania, WWE will have enough time to convince Punk to come and play out the role.

We all know how brilliant Punk is when he plays a heel and Sting on the other side will only make things better.

The match itself could be booked in a similar way that WWE booked the Undertaker- Punk match at WrestleMania where each man didn’t take much punishment but came out giving a great match that the fans loved.

#3 Triple H

Be it Daniel Bryan or be it the Shield, Hunter putting himself in the top storylines is a pattern that we’ve been seeing for some time.

And to be frank he has been doing a swell job as well. Bryan wouldn’t have been such over with the fans if it wasn’t for the heel brilliance of Hunter and same goes for the face run that the Shield is having.

So when Sting returns, Triple H thinking that he will be the best for business opponent for Sting won’t be a surprise. Hunter, who is a former WCW wrestler, could rub the fact in Sting’s face that he never made it in WWE which would make a compelling narrative.

Hunter will have no trouble falling in the last match of sting as he always does what’s best for business; after all it’s going to be his company in near future.

#2 The Rock

When Rock faced off against Hulk Hogan in WrestleMania 18, it was a match between two different eras. Rock was WWE’s biggest name in that time while Hogan was the biggest in the 90s.

And if Rock will face off against Sting, it is going to be something similar.

Sting was someone who was the top guy in WCW while Rock was in parallel someone big in WWE. It would be a match between WCW and WWE that we never got to see in the Invasion angle.

Rock also expressed his desire to face Sting at WrestleMania previously but Sting wasn’t signed with WWE at that moment. Now that Sting is here and Rock is sure to appear in WrestleMania 31, the two could have a dream match.

Like Hunter, Rock will also have no problem losing to Sting as he still has more matches left in him for the WWE fans.

#1 Undertaker

It’s a match that everyone wanted to see ever since WCW folded. But Sting chose not to follow the bandwagon and join WWE. He instead ended up in TNA where he spent almost a decade while in parallel; Taker was building up a legendary streak.

Though what everyone wanted to see was Sting challenging for the streak, it will not happen again as Lesnar ended it. But Taker still has one match left in him, which might well be his farewell match.

Sting and Taker having a double farewell match will be a big draw for WrestleMania or whatever pay-per-view that they put it upon.

It will not be one of those matches that will be known for the wrestling brilliance but its sure going to be driven by a lot of emotions. In the end the two men hugging eachother and raising each other’s arms will go down in history as one of those moments which defines professional wrestling.
