5 reasons why the Attitude era isn't coming back to WWE

There are many reasons that are hampering the WWE product at this moment. The creative’s decisions aren’t on the best possible track and nor are the superstar commitments. However, the biggest factor that hampers the product is the fans itself.A major portion of the WWE Universe is still stuck in the past that they have nothing more than complaining to do. Anything that the WWE puts together is compared to the Attitude Era which to be frank was a bit over rated. This blind faith in the past has made the fans ignorant about the efforts that the WWE have put in at times. However there is one thing that the WWE Universe should realize and that is that the attitude Era is not coming back and here are the reasons why.

#5 Lack of superstars with Attitude

One of the integral parts of the Attitude Era was the roster itself. Names like Steve Austin, Rock, Triple H, Undertaker, Vince McMahon and many more were in their prime and had the skills to live up to the whole idea of the Attitude Era.

Now take a look at the current roster. A plethora of current superstars wouldn’t have survived the Attitude Era as it needed all-around talent.

Names like Dean Ambrose, CM Punk and only a few others would have been the cornerstones of a potential new Attitude Era but now that Punk has left, WWE does not have a roster or a big star to bank on.

Cena cannot be the face of an era like that nor can Brock Lesnar. Bringing back Austin and Rock is a long shot as well which makes the Attitude Era roster impossible to replicate.

#4 The television deals

As time moves on it brings new changes and ideas into almost every level associated with professional wrestling. The television networks haven’t been any different. Back during the late 90s, professional wrestling was at its peak and the networks didn’t have any hesitation in having a product on their program list.

However, there are many alternatives to wrestling in the present age.

The current networks also want family friendly shows which the parents could sit and watch with their children. Attitude Era never provided this luxury as it encouraged blood, violence, foul language, sex and everything that was designed for audiences whose age ranged from 18-30.

Bringing back the Attitude Era might leave WWE without a TV deal which is not a good thing now that the Network is struggling.

#3 The WWE has no competition

Now what was the motive behind the introduction of the Attitude Era? Competition. The competition between WCW and WWE was so intense that both promotions were willing to go beyond all limits to put the other out of business.

There was a sense of desperation all around the WWE and this is what forced McMahon to try something edgier.

Right now, WWE has no competition whatsoever to push them. TNA, which was supposed to be the next WCW, is struggling to stay afloat while Ring of Honor is nowhere near the commercial success that TNA and WWE has.

Jeff Jarrett is plotting his plans for GFW, but this might also fall short, letting WWE rule as a monopolistic power in the business.

#2 WWE is no more private

Back during the Attitude Era, Vince McMahon didn’t have to answer to anyone as he only needed to quench the thirst of fans. This is not the scenario right now.

WWE is a publically traded company, which is not something that would work in favor of having an edgier product. The WWE can no longer function only according to the will of their loyal Universe.

There are shareholders that have a say as to which direction the product should be steered in and these shareholders are mere businessmen. They don’t want to know about how good the storylines are and they don’t want to know how good the in-ring action is.

As long as they get sponsorship and a profit, the fans are secondary to them. So, bringing back the Attitude Era would mean keeping these shareholders away which is near impossible.

#1 The fans

This is sure to be an unpopular reason but the real problem about bringing back the Attitude Era are the fans itself. To make matters easy to relate, recently Lana pulled off a promo addressing the plane crash in Russia. This got a lot of heat from the WWE Universe as they found it cheap on the WWE’s part to make use of a real life situation in favour of getting more heat.

It was pure controversy. Controversy was the motto of the Attitude era and if the current fans cannot sit through a promo like the one Lana pulled off, they have no right to demand a new Attitude Era.

So instead of constantly being narrow minded, the fans should actually start to respect the efforts that the company puts in to keep the business alive.
