5 Superstars that could replace Triple H as the top Authority Figure

The concept of Authority Figures has been a mainstay in WWE ever since the company’s inception. It peaked during the Attitude Era when Vince McMahon revolutionalised the character and turned it into the backbone of WWE.Ruthless Aggression and PG Era saw its fair share of Authority figures and now, Triple H alongside his wife is filling the role in the Reality Era.For more than a year, the fans have been witnessing Authority’s heel tactics and misuse of power. To be frank, Hunter has grown stale as the character and WWE needs to push in some freshness into the main event scene. There are many replacements for Hunter out there in the roster so here is a look at the best options that the creative has.

#5 Undertaker

This might sound like a wild idea but this is the best way in which WWE could keep a big legend like Undertaker on television.

He is someone who stuck to the dead man gimmick for a long time but after his defeat at WrestleMania, WWE could easily recast Taker as a mere mortal. Taker is in no shape to compete even if it is for once in a year and at the same time he has too much aura to be kept out of the WWE programming.

Now that Lesnar is the world champion, Taker being the new authority figure would make compelling angle as the amount of tension between the two will be sky high.

WWE could also lead up to that farewell match if they wants to as it would be a better choice to keep him on television regularly than brining back all of a sudden without no buildup whatsoever.

#4 Hulk Hogan

Hogan coming back to WWE from TNA was built up as a big thing. The WWE had all the right to do so as he is such a big draw even though he is well past his prime.

However, once Hogan arrived in the company, the WWE was faced with a problem of not knowing what to do with him. Hosting the WrestleMania and hyping the network over were the only job given to Hogan when he could do more.

Back in TNA, Hogan served as an Authority figure and was effective apart from the fact that he got physical every now and then.

WWE doesn’t need Hogan to do that as he could just be a typical authority figure that gets the job done. There is no better way to use Hogan than this and WWE should realize this at the earliest.

#3 William Regal

Underrated or Ill- treated might be words that would suit William Regal. He has been with the company through almost all the eras and is one of the most experienced wrestlers in the roster at this moment.

Regal’s wrestling career ended a long time ago even though he showed off some moves last year in a match against Cesaro at NXT. Currently he is serving as the general manager of NXT, showing that he is willing to do anything that the company throws at him.

He is entertaining to the core as an authority figure and even if many don’t like the idea of someone like Regal being up there, it would be a best for business deal.

And for fans who thinks that Regal is not a big enough star: here is some food for thought, who is bigger? Someone like CM Punk who walked out on the fans and company or someone like Regal who stuck around due to nothing more than loyalty?

#2 Paul Heyman

We know what Paul Heyman is all about. He is sick, manipulative, entertaining, intense, driven, and in short, everything that an authority figure should be. Heyman was the General Manager of SmackDown back in the Ruthless Aggression Era and none of the fans would have a complaint about his reign.

After that WWE confined Heyman to single superstars as they though building up one particular wrestler was better than having a successfully authority figure.

Ever since the inception of ECW, Heyman is someone who lived as the Authority figure. The ECW fans loved him for being that character and WWE however hasn’t made full use of this potential.

Lesnar as Champion and Heyman as the one with power could be a destructive combination that the babyface in the roster wouldn’t want.

#1 Vince McMahon

This might sound a bit obvious but there is no better option in WWE to be a credible authority figure than Mr. McMahon himself.

There are rumors suggesting that the Mr. McMahon character is retired but knowing Vince, he always knows when to come out of retirement and steal the show.

Ever since he acquired the company from his father, McMahon has been steering the promotion through all the tough tides and tsunamis. WWE might not be at a crisis right now but with all the financial turmoil, a change is imminent.

McMahon coming in to the mix and turning the company upside down is a dream moment for every fan and hopefully it would happen sooner or later.
