5 things India can do to get back to winning ways

India surrendered meekly to the Englishmen in the fourth Test at Old Trafford. The Indian top order was left in shambles. This article focuses on the things that India can do to get themsleves out of the rut that they find themsleves in.

#1 Stuart Binny

Stuart Binny should have been the ideal choice for the Indians, with the seam-friendly English conditions. He proved that he is no mug with the bat either in his solid knock of 78 in the first Test at Trent Bridge. He was scarcely allowed to bowl in that Test. MSD needs to seriously consider slecting Binny for the next Test and doing justice to the perfromances that he has delivered.

#2 Picking Ashwin over Jadeja

Ashwin was mighty impressive with the bat in recent outing in the fourth Test match, scoring 86 runs.

The other all-rounder, Jadeja, apart from that sparkling innings at Lord’s, has been struggling to find his feet in all departments of the game. Dhoni must consider picking Ashwin over Jadeja and giving Binny a Test cap. This will certainly boost India’s chances at the Oval.

#3 Pushing Rahane up the order

Ajinkya Rahane has been India’s most consistent batsman so far. In this tour, the openeres have not managed to post even one 50-run partnership. Since neither Gambhir nor Dhawan seem to be in good nick, the possibility of playing Rahane as an opener along with Vijay can be considered.

This may just end up providing the Indians with the much needed stability that they need at the top of the order.

#4 Juggling the slip cordon

India’s poor catching in the slip cordon is certainly something that needs improvement. With Rahul DRavid, one of the game’s most prolific slip fielders to guide them, they should have no problem at all. Dravid, VVS Laxman and Sunil Gavaskar have expressed their concern over this issue. Maybe putting Rahane, Kohli and Jadeja there isn’t such a good idea after all. The management urgently needs to identify reliable slip fielders in the squad.

#5 Naman Ojha over MSD?

Although the Indian captain may have nerves of steel and counter-attacking batting which has saved India on a couple of occasions, it’s about time we accepted that his keeping and captaincy is hurting the team. HIs batting from isn’t all that great either. This may be the right time to give the young Naman Ojha a chance to prove his worth. Ojha had an excellent time down under with the India A side, hitting two centuries and a double century in Australia. It may be his chance to shine.
