5 Unusual tag-teams in WWE history

The quality of storylines in WWE has allowed it to rule the wrestling world for this long. The creativity in writing (atleast in its heyday), along with the performance on stage is one of the reasons why it has tasted magnanimous success.Going back to the attitude era, the tag teams played a crucial role in helping WWE climb the ratings chart over WCW. In the company’s illustrious history, the tag team division has played a vital role in keeping the fans engaged to the brandHowever, some tag teams were the coming together of the north and south – as the paired WWE stars were polar opposites of each other. These combinations were indeed insane and despite the lack of co-ordination, these tag teams ended up entertaining the WWE Universe. Here is the list of some the oddest pairings in WWE history:

#5 ShowMiz

The legendary giant teaming up with the ‘Awesome’ superstar saw a considerable amount of success.

The end of Jeri-Show was the beginning of ShowMiz. The combo of strength and sharpness did the unthinkable as DX had to bite the dust against ShowMiz – with the iconic tag team of Triple H and Shawn Michaels losing the unified titles to the unusual foes.

The success of this team continued for several months including a victory at the grandest stage of them all – WrestleMania 26.

However, the team parted ways the moment they dropped the tag titles with Miz paying the price. Big Show was angry, as he felt Miz was the reason behind an unsuccessful title defense.

The anger resulted in harmful circumstances for The Miz and the eventual break up of the team.

#4 Hollywood Hulk Hogan & Edge

This couple was the coming together of two different generations. Hulkamania is the all-time icon of the industry – whose legacy lives on forever in the hearts of WWE Universe.

While Edge, was the ultimate opportunist, he alongside Hogan was out of the ordinary. The two grabbed the tag team crown against Billy and Chuck on SmackDown in July 2002. However, the reign only lasted a few weeks as the titles were lost in the subsequent pay-per-view.

The mixture of a generation gap was indeed a once in a lifetime moment. Two historic figures of two different Era’s made for a nostalgic moment.

#3 CM Punk & Kofi Kingston

The respect Punk desired for was certainly earned. Fans still wonder about his departure and are hopeful for a return. Nevertheless, the straight edge superstar has given us a lot of memories.

In terms of a tag team, Punk had a strange pairing with one of the current members of New Day – Kofi Kingston. The two tasted tag team glory, despite being different in nature.

Kofi is a high flyer, who likes to enjoy life. On the other hand, it was CM Punk, who was strictly disciplined and promoted a straight edge life. This divergent pair kept hold of the title for almost two months in a highly competitive environment.

#2 The Rock n Sock connection

WWE’s Attitude Era achieved rabid success for so many different reasons – The Rock n Sock connection being one of them. The fight for the top spot in sports entertainment industry was at full pace when the WWE creative came with the glorious idea of such a tag team.

The amalgamation of People’s Champ and Mankind broke all records. This masterpiece of a story turned out to be a pivotal momentum booster for WWE, and the final nail in the coffin for WCW.

It all began with Mankind offering The Braham Bull to join hands and form a team. The blend of domination and comedy won the tag team titles and were unsurprisingly quite over. A blend – which was far from perfect – did its bit on and off the stage, successfully making it an enjoyable pairing.

#1 Kane and Daniel Bryan

One of the funniest gimmicks on screen – both stars played their role to perfection.

The Big Red Monster with the GOAT were creating a lot of buzz. It all started with AJ Lee sending Kane and Bryan for some anger management sessions with Dr.Shelby being in charge.

Shelby’s lessons were a success as it managed to produce one of the most strange tag teams of all time – a pairing that defied expectations to achieve success

The idea to kill the anger with hugs led to tag team gold for the two superstars. Even with different ideologies, the duo were dominant and looked sharp in every title defense.
