Being a commentator in any sport is no pleasure cruise. Good commentator’s skills include not just having an eagle eye, but also the gift of the gab which is capable of keeping viewers hooked for the entire during of a match. While many great commentators haven’t even played a minute of the sport they talk about every week, having someone who’s done and seen it all helps a great deal especially in the case of wrestling.Take the example of Jim Ross who’s one of the WWE’s most recognizable voices. His experience as wrestler, in a career that spanned nearly 20 years has helped him a great deal. Other former pros stepping up to trade their boots for a mic would always be welcome. With that in mind let’s take a look at 5 wrestlers who could transition into doing commentary.

#1 The Rock

WWE has seen countless number of superstars boasting of various talents, but amongst them all one of my personal favourites will always be Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. And I’m not alone in that sentiment, millions of fans worldwide echo it too.

Apart from being outstanding during his time on WWE, setting numerous records in the process, Johnson is also considered as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time. His mega-successful Hollywood career has also propelled him from superstar wrestler to global superstar. Not to forget, he’s a real people’s person too, a fantastic crowd pleaser and really knows what the fans want and how to treat them.

Who wouldn’t want him to take up commentary one day? This is one dream everyone wants to come true.

#2 The Big Show

The Big Show

One of wrestling entertainment's biggest stars, absolutely no pun intended (this never gets old, has got to be Paul Wight aka The Big Show). A part of the WWE since 1995, Wight memorably made his debut as the supposed son of Andre The Giant, before being a part of many memorable feuds, which cemented his status as one of the franchise's most popular wrestlers.

One thing that has been one of Wight’s biggest assets, besides his enormous figure, is his crowd-pleasing ability; in fact it was that very ability that got him noticed by the franchise, which will make him an excellent commentator. His distinctive voice as well as his gentle way of speaking when outside the ring could make him a massive hit.

Once he decides to hang up his enormous boots and make the transition into commentary, success would surely follow. He’d be a giant among commentators, literally!

#3 Christian

He wasn’t called Mr Charisma for nothing. William Reso aka Christian’s gimmick back in 2004 was that of a pompous villain, but he played his part so well that few could argue about his crowd-pleasing talents. Christian has been a part of WWE’s roster since 1998, and has had a long, but extremely fruitful way to the top, accumulating oodles of experience along the way.

He knows the business of wrestling like the back of his hand, which will make him an excellent commentator in the future. Who knows maybe he’ll share the mic with his childhood buddy Adam Copeland aka Edge. One thing’s for sure, we’d definitely like to see his doing commentary during tag team matches for obvious reasons.

#4 Mark Henry

As I’ve said before experience in the sport is often the making of a great commentator, and this big guy has that in abundance. Besides having nearly 20 years experience with WWE, Henry’s also an avid athlete, representing the USA as a weightlifter in two Olympics as well as the Pan American games where he won a goal among numerous other prestigious competitions.

The 44-year-old may not have half the titles his illustrious peers on this list boasts of, but experience has triumphed over resumes many a times in the job world, and could very well happen in the wrestling one. His distinctive voice will surely be one fans want to hear on commentary in the future.

#5 Daniel Bryan

Daniel Bryan

An undoubted talent, Bryan Lloyd Danielson aka Daniel Bryan has had a rollercoaster of a few years. Between concussions, a forced retirement, a general manager run and finally being cleared, the former World Champion has had an incredible comeback story.

The “American Dragon”, is extremely well known for his crowd-pleasing talents, which is an extremely important skill of good commentary, and could channel that energy in if put on the mic sooner or later.

Not to mention, his commentary in the Cruiserweight Classic with Mauro Ranallo was outstanding. Bryan’s wrestling experiences in Japan as well as on the independent circuit can also be counted as assets. Would we love to see him as a commentator? Yes!
