6 WWE Superstars who kicked out of the F5

Caption

The biggest F5 of Lesnar’s careerBrock Lesnar is arguably WWE’s biggest asset and has been booked to be made to look like the nastiest beast there is, a relentless monster who does nothing but destroy. It wouldn’t seem surprising then, that very few people have kicked out of his finishing manoeuvre, the F5.The F5 itself is devastating. Imagine being taken up to Lesnar’s height, spun like a helicopter’s blade in mid-air while being brought down to the ground, just to land on your face. That is bad. It’s like an Attitude Adjustment, except, it’s worse for the receiver in every way. There have been a few that have kicked out, though, and this article looks at five of them, in chronological order.

#1 Kurt Angle - WrestleMania XIX

To begin this article, let’s look at arguably Lesnar’s biggest night in WWE.

WrestleMania XIX’s main event featured the WWE Championship match between Kurt Angle and the Royal Rumble winner of that year, Brock Lesnar.

What everyone remembers this match for, ironically, is a monumental botch. Brock Lesnar was on the top rope, with Kurt Angle way across the ring, and he attemped to deliver a Shooting Star Press. While he executed most of it, he landed short of Angle and almost paralysed himself. Although he did win the WWE Championship that night, what stood out was that one moment of terror.

What many also overlook, however, is that it was one of the first times anyone kicked out of the F5. Although following the second time he delivered the F5 in the match, Lesnar did not pin Angle but did what was mentioned above, the first time, he did attempt to pin him, and Angle kicked out. It was a shock at the time, nobody had really done so before.

#2 Goldberg - WrestleMania XX

Lesnar vs Goldberg didn’t live up to the hype

The next entry on the list comes an entire year later, at the following WrestleMania, in Brock Lesnar’s last match for WWE, at least until he would return eight years later.

In a match that was a terrible let-down, Brock Lesnar had just taken a Spear from Goldberg and had kicked out. While he lay on the ground, Goldberg went on to argue with the guest referee, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and while he was caught up with that, Lesnar got up and took a distracted Goldberg onto his shoulders and delivered an F5.

It would have been foolish, of course, for WWE to have had Goldberg lose right there, and so he did kick out, which wasn’t much of a surprise considering how much of a powerhouse he is.

#3 Triple H - WrestleMania 29

Lesnar didn’t have much to celebrate about that night

A whole nine years after the previous entry, WrestleMania 29 saw Brock Lesnar fall short to Triple H, in a rematch from SummerSlam the previous year, which Lesnar won.

In this match, there was Paul Heyman at ringside as well as Shawn Michaels. In one spot in the match, Heyman attempted to interfere in the match (which was no disqualifications) and he was met with a Sweet Chin Music from Michaels. Immediately though, Lesnar delivered an F5 to Michaels, and in the time, Triple H took advantage and hit a Pedigree on Lesnar, to which he kicked out at two.

While Lesnar was still down, The Game stepped out of the ring and managed to find a sledgehammer at ringside, and when he entered the ring and attempted to hit Lesnar with it, Lesnar ducked and quickly scooped him up for an F5.

Triple H did kick out at two, and he won the match later, following another Pedigree onto the base of the steel steps.

#4 The Undertaker - WrestleMania XXX

The third time’s the charm

The Undertaker probably holds the record for most number of occasions anyone has kicked out of an F5, by which I mean the number of events. For this article, I'm only going to be considering WrestleMania XXX only, as it fits in chronologically.

The build-up for this match was a bit of a letdown, and so was the match itself. It was one of Undertaker’s worst matches in recent years, considering the masterpieces he has put on with Triple H and CM Punk in the preceeding years, and also what he did with Bray Wyatt and Lesnar himself this year.

Taker didn’t kiick out of one F5 in this match, but he kicked out of two, and while everyone was expecting him to kick out of a third, they were completely wrong.

#5 John Cena - SummerSlam 2014

This match defined Lesnar as a suplex machine

It’s fair to say, this is pretty much the only thing John Cena can brag about in this match. Everything else was terrible for him.

As soon as the match started, Lesnar pounced on Cena and didn’t allow him to have any offense, and mere seconds into it delivered the first F5 of the match. This being John Cena, and the fact that even a minute wasn’t up, he did kick out at two.

What followed was not pretty for any John Cena fan, and when Lesnar delivered the second F5, Cena did not kick out (after being utterly destroyed) and lost his WWE World Heavyweight Championship, marking the beginning of Brock Lesnar’s seven month reign as the champion. Cena did kick out of the F5 again at Night Of Champions, but in this context, this was more important, because the last entry on the list concerns Lesnar’s last day as champion.

#6 Roman Reigns - WrestleMania 31

None more resilient than Roman Reigns

It appears to be a WrestleMania tradition to have somebody kick out of the F5.

However, this wasn’t just like any other entry. Roman Reigns has probably been the most defiant man in history to have faced Brock Lesnar.

Similar to what happened against John Cena, Lesnar hit the first F5 in the match pretty early, and Reigns kicked out. As the match progressed, Lesnar took complete control, and eventually delivered a second F5, to which Roman Reigns kicked out.

Lesnar continued his merciless assault and after a while delivered yet another F5, but Reigns kicked out, again. It was at this point that Roman first delivered some credible offense, and soon bust Lesnar open, delivered a Spear and took control.

That all changed with another F5 though, except this time he didn’t kick out. He didn’t lose either though, as he wasn’t even pinned. Both men were laid out, apparently exhausted, and Seth Rollins cashed in his Money In The Bank contract, and, well, the rest is history.
