8 WWE Superstars Who Were Bullied As Children

“Bullying is the use of force, threat, or coercion to abuse, intimidates, or aggressively dominates others. The behavior is often repeated and habitual” says a formal definition, but in reality, these words go flushing down the drain and bullying is something worse.WWE has always been there at the front when it comes to fighting against bullying and it is something that they deserve respect for. The Anti-Bullying campaign of WWE sees the superstars go out and spread the message in every way possible and what makes most of these superstars eligible for the process is their experience.A lot of superstars in the WWE’s roster went through bullying during their childhood and we are going to take a look at those names, which came out on top and proved that bullying cannot hold down your dreams.

#9 David Otunga

The Harvard Graduate who rarely makes it to WWE television suffered a lot of bullying during his childhood and does some active work in the company’s campaigns against Bullying. Otunga makes for a pertinent face in the anti-bullying campaign given his strong-man persona, but a soft demeanour.

Otunga is married to popular singer/artist Jeniffer Hudson and is seen in quite a few popular main-stream events across media.

#7 Eve Torres

Before Eve Torres married a forth degree Black belt Rener Gracie and before she became a mainstay in the WWE divas division, Eve was a constant target of the bullies. Her stories of getting bullied date back to high school and it ran all the way to her college years.

After passing out from the college, Eve left behind all the hardships she suffered and went on to realize her dream in wrestling. She became a divas champion and once she left wrestling, she became a self-defense teacher at Gracie-owned jiu jitsu academy. So if there are any bullies out there who bothered her, you know where to stay away from.

#6 Sheamus

Nowadays, anyone would hesitate to go near the Celtic Warrior even if it is for a small talk. But the situation was entirely different in his childhood. Sheamus was a bit small and chubby back then and if it wasn’t enough, he had the same red hair.

"I took a fair amount of abuse,” Sheamus said in an interview. Despite this, Sheamus turned his life around.

"I turned my negativity to positivity. I had people telling me I was worthless. They were laughing at me. I told them I wanted to be a WWE superstar and that I wanted to become a champion. They told me I would never do that. And that drove me to prove people wrong all my life,” He added. Never though Sheamus was this inspiring, did you?

#5 Damien Sandow

Sandow’s story of being bullied is a bit different from the rest of the list. Sandow told his story in one of the STAR anti-bullying rallies that WWE held during the WrestleMania 30 weekend.

The bullies made fun of him by saying that he will never become a WWE superstar but one of this friends actually stood up for him. Sandow went on to say that it is important that you support your friends just like that and added that he got a friend for life after the incident. Sandow then went on to prove the bullies wrong and became the WWE superstar he is today.

#4 The Miz

Miz might be an irritating character in the WWE and it might be hard to like him as a whole, but he does have some stories of being bullied as a youngster. He used to be made fun of during his school days and there were days where the Awesome one skipped school in fear of getting bullied.

Miz once pointed out that keeping the whole thing as a secret was the biggest mistake he made and currently urges the children to share whatever happens in school. Just like most of the other superstars in the list, Miz is also a major player in the WWE’s Anti-Bullying campaigns.

#3 Hornswoggle

Hornswoggle might not be seen in the television lately, but he is still making rounds around the United States with WWE and promoting the message of Anti- Bullying whenever he can. Hornswoggle is not a big surprising name in the list as a major portion of the bullies see short men as easy target. He was at the receiving end of bullying on a large extent and once said that he started to learn to deal with it.

The last Cruiser weight champion however also had a good advice for the kids as he urged them to share the problem with an adult as it could really be helpful.

#2 Natalya

Natalya is yet another WWE superstar who underwent bullying as a child. The problem that bullies found in Natalya was her voice. Although it might not sound like a big deal, it is such small matters that gets blown out of proportion and serve as the reasons for bullying.

As mentioned in the Miz case, Natalya had instances of not going to school due to the fear of getting bullied there. Once her studies were wrapped up, she joined the Hart Dungeon and got her training in mixed martial arts and amateur wrestling. She was the first third generation woman wrestler in the world and lives up to the name pretty well these days.

#1 John Cena

The fans might know John Cena as someone whose face is there in every milk carton that comes out of WWE’s production range. But before Cena reached here, he was subjected to a lot of bullying in his childhood. Cena was bullied for loving rap music and wearing hip-hop clothes.

The Cenation leader went on drawing inspiration from the bullying and started lifting weights to protect himself from the bullies. This laid foundation for his body building career which then helped his transition into the WWE.

Yes, even the top face of WWE was bullied as a child. Do you need any more inspiration to stand up for yourself? As Cena said, “Put a smile on your face and do whatever you can to succeed.”
